I just found a craigslist ad...here in denver of a motorcycle with my stolen bikes fairings.... ( stolen 3-4 years ago !)
I went and looked at it VIN's don't match ( I checked the motor one too)
I had a VERY unique paint job on it so I'm sure they are mine but no serial numbered parts I can use for proof....
I'm so pissed . The guy has it sitting outside so I looked at it alone ...which is better cuz I mighta roughed him up over the fairings.

That sucks. But you never know...he may have come by them innocently enough if he just bought parts. You did the right thing by not escalating it.
You could tell him how much you like the fairings and ask him where he got them.
Any chance the fairings are not yours?
That sucks, maybe ask where he got them at and he could point you in the right direction

Doubtful.....
What are the odds of the same bike ( an 1986 Honda VFR) having the same purple/Blue morphing ghost flame paint job ? LOL
They came stock Red White and Blue.
But like Bailey said.. he might just bought them from the asshole that stole mine. But without serial numbers I got no court level proof....
Tho I have a friend in DPD that is gunna poke around for me ....

Do you happen to have any pictures of your bike with the parts on it before it was stolen? Could really sway things in your favor.
depending on how things go please remember this guy may be innocent in the whole deal and could have bought them off a guy who said his bike broke down or other excuse and had no idea they were stolen or he was buying stolen property.
if he knew or he stole them then by all means burn him to the ground. I just know if some guy showed up and said I stole his stuff or he was taking it back I'd be pretty upset if I was innocent in the whole situation.

OP can just be honest about it and say "Hey, my bike with those fairings was stolen, can you tell me where you got them so I can ask about it?" Creating another lead and following up on it.

Pretty much what I was thinking.

Direct approach rarely works in investigations. Honest people don't want to get mixed up with your shit, and dishonest people are definitely not going to help you. If you want to go direct, start fishing first.
"Man, I've always kind of wanted plastics like that. That is sick. Where do you get something like that? I have a 83' at home, kind of thinking of a second one, but I'd like to make them match. Did you order those online or something?"
Then, feel out their reactions. If they identify a prior seller, then you can come clean, show them a picture of your old bike... etc. etc. If they are dishonest you can root it out - e.g. they claim they order it online, etc.
Pretty much sums it up.

...or he may be the guy or a friend of the guy that actually committed the crime.
You just don't know...
This is that "...presumed innocent until proven guilty..." part that we are all supposed to uphold.
In times like this when we have a personal involvement, it can be very difficult to abide by this.
Glad you kept your cool and walked away.
Also glad you have someone unofficially poking into it.
I'm guessing that if you tried to get someone to 'officially' investigate it, you would have been told "No, sorry. Case was closed. Insurance money was paid. We don't have time... etc.", further escalating your emotions.

Yeah without any hard proof I'm pretty much just dropping it
Nothing I could do that wouldn't end me up in jail in some fashion LOL . Tho I am wondering what my buddy might come up with Cops can be down right basturds when they wanna be LOL.
I'm still pissed about it But hoping that Karma will com thru for me .
Tho the cops should arrest him for robbery for what he is asking for in price .... WAY over priced for a 29 year old motorcycle that is not in PERFECT showroom shape.

I know just how you feel 'Lights.
My kids WRX was stolen 2 years ago from some apartments in Aurora.
EVERY time I see a blue bug eye rolling down the road I feel the same way.
It sucks.
I miss my 86 and 96 VFRs...should have never sold them

Yeah, don't ya love that "we ain't got the time or resources to fuck with ya" attitude when you go to them for help, especially when you know who the guilty party is?
