View Full Version : SBR in Denver County, trusts, etc....
I just moved to Denver County from UI Douglas, and have the itch to SBR one of my ARs. I'm guessing individuals would need to get it signed by the Denver C.O.P. Been talking to folks about individual, LLCs or trusts, I see the benefits, but am on the fence. Anyone have any personal experience and want to throw in their .02? Sorry if this has been beat to death, but there are probably others out there....
Thanks
Ever heard "a snowball's chance in hell"?
That's about the chance you'll get a signoff in Denver County. A trust will be your only option next to a manufacturers license.

Get off the fence a Trust is your only option.
Yup, Roger that. I think I found what I'm going to do. Thanks for the replies.

And just to muddy the water a bit more, be advised that Denver has an "assault weapons" ban.

What ever you do, get it done and in the pipeline before 12/1/15. SUPPOSEDLY that is when 41P starts. What is 41P? That's up to you to research.

^ This. I am getting all my NFA stuff in before 41P takes effect. Afterwards I don't see myself doing anymore NFA stuff unless I move to a very friendly jurisdiction.

There are other legal entities that can own a NFA item.

There lies the issue, since it would force the CLEO to sign off on it. If not expect the lawsuits to start piling up.
This is the first I have heard of the December 41P deadline? They were talking May..... Then nothing. Where did you get that date? This should be posted in the NFA thread area.

Do a search. I read it over on arfcom in the NFA section. It (IIRC) had a link to nfalawyers and current status.. I posted here because the OP had questions, which should have been posted in the NFA section to start with.

It will be a cold day in hell before Anti-2A CLEO's sign off on NFA stuff. Laws/rules they do not agree with do not matter/apply to them. We've seen this in the past. They will ignore/lose applications, create mountains of bureaucratic red tape (locally) and disregard court orders. The only reason trusts worked was because it completely circumvented the local CLEO. Now that they are inserted into every NFA application, they will attempt to block everything that comes across their desks. And I suspect that was the point of 41P. Lawsuits will be tied up in the courts for years, if not decades, considering the CLEO's will have the financial and legal backing of their Anti-2A local governments.

Yes. 12/1/15 now get out and get going.
Go the trust route...I had Rodney Woodard at Woodard law in Loveland establish my trust awhile back, and now Ive got 4 SBR's and two cans, with another of each on the way towards approval. The trust route is the way to go.

Thanks for the info. I pm'd nfatrustguy for info. Totally new to this stuff. I live in Denver and read on here somewhere its pretty much impossible to do it without a trust.
I take it Rodney is the go to guy for this?
Thanks Sam
