Height to be determined but I am curious where I can buy a telephone pole and have it placed in ground. For purposed of mounting an area flood light. Not your typical street light and power pole size looking for the smaller diameter poles.

Check with your local power/ phone companies. I've gotten poles from the local electrical coop for free. I just let them know if they were pulling old poles in the area, that I'd gladly take them off their hands if they were so inclined to drop them off. Saved them from hauling the poles back to their yard and disposing of them. As far as setting, it ain't that hard to dig a hole. Setting a long pole is a little more difficult but can be done with enough rope and a few folks. But if you're not one for physics, rope skills or possess machinery, then it might be best to find someone locally with a tractor or hoist of some type.

Electrical contractors or small time excavation outfits.

Remember 6' minimum depth, + 1' for every 10' over 30' above grade.

Better check your local city codes before setting it in your yard.
You don't need code enforcement knocking down your door.

I heard Wheat Ridge has an agreement with Greenwood Village to share their armored vehicle and swat team to do enforcement.

Also, call for locates before digging.

I am looking for the type of pole that is typical for extended power drops where an intermediate mid-span pole is required to maintain aerial height clearance requirements and as such is typically allowed in such situations. Your point is already taken into consideration and I am planning to ask the powers that be before diving in head first.

If you have a pole trailer I'm sure you could get one from the appretiship I use to work for, as for setting the pole it wouldn't be cheap I know sturgeon bills a min of 4 hrs for a truck/equipment and probably $100 an hr for each worker. Could call q3 a nonunion contractor and ask. Just make sure you call 811 for locates.

Yep good rule of thumb 10% of pole height plush 2 feet or a min of 5 feet if the pole is 35 feet of shorter.

Depending on your needs.... I have a pole that I'll need removed in the next couple weeks. It's probably about 50' long (40' above ground). I have it budgeted to have it pulled, so if you want it you could have it.

Drop me a PM and you can stop by and take a look at it.

He has more time on poles than a 45 year old stripper in Tijuana.

Seriously, Bob knows his stuff on this subject

Any idea how high?
If mb504's offer doesn't work, I have some to get rid of.

I've gaffed the damn things for 20+ years other than that I have never had to deal with installation of the poles themselves.

I set a few power company takeouts for a buddy's pole barn. 4 foot hole with a auger two guy to put in the poles. About 12 feet exposed. Try calling Par electric or Stergeon. The best way is find a crew and stop and ask for an old pole. bring a chain saw because its tough to get a 30 foot plus piece of wood home . For a jump pole with little weight 4 feet is likely deep enough. and just back fill with dirt. Though I've seen them use an epoxy expanding foam that was awesome.

Good enough, and what NEC, the power Co. & local codes require are probably not the same.

My company has an old cement wrapped light pole you could have. We are moving yards and can't find a reason to take it with us.
