Some asked for an update on how my dad is doing. He arrived at the ER yesterday about 2:00 and they ran him thru an MRI as he was having paralysis of the right side of his face. There were some things that they thought were a little odd but they didn't see any tumors or bleeding. They decided they wanted him to stay the night for observation and to be seen by a neurologist in the morning. They poked and prodded him thru the night and I was over there about 9:00 this morning. Hung out thru the day and finally went to lunch. 2:00pm the neurologist still hadn't shown and we began to press it with the nurses...with assurances that he would be arriving as soon as he was done with other patients. Finally we pushed that we needed some idea of when he would be arriving. Shortly thereafter we were informed that there was a mixup and he wasn't scheduled to even come.

They forwarded the tests to him...he reviewed them and agreed with their assessment that there wasn't anything major wrong with the brain and that this was a case of Bells Palsey.

He got home by about 5:00pm following check out and picking up prescriptions. Taking it easy for the night.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Very happy to hear he will not be spending the weekend in the hospital. Miserable places full of sick people who would rather be just about anywhere else, and worried friends and family sitting or wandering the halls trying to find someone who actually can tell them something they don't already know.

God bless and keep your father. May you find time to enjoy each others company so that when you are physically apart, you will always know how you both feel about one another.

Be safe.

Not to state the obvious but keep a close eye on him. Like, set an alarm to check in on him at 3AM type stuff. Hospitals work on the idea of putting you into a group and then treating it in the same way each time. If new things "pop up" they try to match all of the symptoms to what they know. If they don't know anything, they send you home till there is a problem. This is where the show "House" got it more right than wrong. They can't do anything with intermitant problems they can't put into a categorization. He may be fine, but may not. Again, just watch him close.

Good luck. I hope all goes well. Enjoy them while you can. I have lost 3 people in my family in the last few months, it sucks dealing with medical anything.

I can't say anything better than what Chuck (cstone) said. Enjoy the blessing of having your father everyday.
