As some of you know I recently got my carry permit. While it looks like my Glock 43 is going to be my primary carry piece it never hurts to have options.

Wanting something small and light in 45 ACP I looked at my options and settled on the Springfield XDS. I won't lie, part of my decision was made when I saw they were doing a limited run in FDE.

Would the XDS be my choice if I could only have one handgun? No. Did I buy it with the intent of putting thousands of rounds through it? No.

I bought it because I wanted something small, thin, light weight and easy to conceal and chambered in 45 ACP.

The trigger isn't very good. It lacks a well defined break and feels rather spongy. Despite this, it is fairly easy to shoot well at reasonable distances.

For being so small it is really quite pleasant to shoot even though it is chambered in 45 ACP.

I only have 50 rounds through it so the jury is still out as far as how reliable it really is but I had no issues with it in those 50 rounds.

Anyhow, to give you an idea of just how small it is I thought I'd toss up a few pictures of it along side my 43.

How do you like the grips so far, will you stipple/talon grip or leave them alone?

I like the color preferance on the XD, nice pick.

I like the XDS but haven't shot the 45 only the 9mm, How's the recoil?

Not going to lie, the XDS has never been real aesthetically pleasing to me, but that FDE version looks flat out sharp. May have to track one down.

I was pleasantly surprised by how mild the recoil was when I shot my brothers. It actually seemed softer shooting than the Glock 36 I had years back. Definitely a fun little pistol to shoot, and accurate!

Grips are staying stock. Plenty grippy just the way they are. In fact, they leave a pretty cool pattern on my hands they are so grippy.

It's really tame. You can definitely tell you're shooting something but it isn't painful, doesn't jump around in the hand, and comes back on target well. After fifty rounds I was no worse for wear and could have kept shooting all day if I wanted to.
