Man dies trying to launch huge firework off his head in front of family
WALLED LAKE, MICHIGAN — A 47-year-old man died Sunday night after a large firework shell he was holding over his head exploded.
Police say alcohol was involved in the incident, which happened around 9 p.m. on the 1500 block of Quinif Drive.
The man was identified as Scott Jeffers. The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and ruled his death to be an accident.
"We received a call about a medical emergency involving fireworks," Walled Lake Police Chief Paul Shakinas told the Detroit News. "We found a resident in the backyard with severe trauma to the back of his head. We were not able to revive him."
According to police, the accident happened in front of Jeffers' family. Police say Jeffers took a large mortar-type firework and tried to shoot it off his head.
The force of such a firework goes in both directions. It shot through his skull. A witness tried to save him with CPR, but he died at the scene.
"Alcohol was a factor in what happened. We are urging everyone to use caution when using fireworks. Fireworks and alcohol do not mix."Shakinas said.
Would have been awesome had he pulled it off.
Just kidding. Wife told me about this and that is not the way I'd like to go.

I'm shocked.
God taking out the trash. I heard there was an NFL dude that held a firework and he got a severe burn and nerve damage. Gotta wonder who gave him the sparkler?????
We did have a lot of illegal fireworks in our neighborhood this year. Some were actually pretty cool. We got to watch the Sky Sox show from our deck so we did not have to go anywhere. Thanks for letting me ramble on. V
One Darwin Award, coming right up.....
That would qualify the guy for the Darwin in the Patriotic category... [fail] Does this make him mortarfied?

We are skewing nature by enacting rules and laws that keep the fatally stupid from succeeding in earning a Darwin award.
A few will succeed no matter what, way too many will be stopped.

Stupid is as stupid does.
I found this interesting regarding the Maine incident:
In 2011, lawmakers voted to repeal a 1949 law banning fireworks, reasoning the industry would create jobs and generate additional revenue.
When the .gov "allows" us to do something it's always about the revenue, never about freedoms.

Guess fireworks will be banned next year just to save one life you know. Sad for him and his family. Guess he never took physics in school...you know for every reaction there is an opposite and equal reaction.

That was one of the main things that jumped out at me as well...

After watching a few episodes of "Down East Dickering", maybe Maine needed to do something to stimulate revenue.

Related these stories to a cradle to grave socialist coworker.
Quote - "This kind of stuff is why fireworks are illegal. We have to keep people from doing dumb stuff."

This kind of stuff is precisely why fireworks should be LEGAL, we need the stupid to pay the fatal and permanent penalty for being stupid.
Natural selection is a beautiful thing.

A couple different people said the same thing. I thought the socialist was going pass out. She honestly believes the govt should save people from themselves.
I then left and went back to my hole. I have already been pulled aside and asked to not discuss politics with her.

Man mocks alligators, jumps in water and is killed in Texas (http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/04/us/texas-alligator-attack/)
Orange County Justice of the Peace Rodney Price toldCNN affiliate KFDM (http://www.kfdm.com/shared/news/top-stories/stories/kfdm_vid_17003.shtml) that Woodward ignored verbal warnings and a posted "No Swimming Alligators" sign and seemed to mock the deadly creatures before going in the water.
"He removed his shirt, removed his billfold ... someone shouted a warning and he said 'blank the alligators' and jumped in to the water and almost immediately yelled for help," Price said.
...the "almost immediately yelled for help" is the funniest part.

The man was identified as Scott Jeffers. The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and ruled his death to be an act of "stupid". The police Chef was quoted as saying "There's no vaccine for stupid people. We just have to try to avoid them and hope this happens without a large populus around. On the upside, the kids were watching and maybe learned something thus strengthening the gene pool in the specific case.

I can see it now... "Stupid people's lives matter too!" I always say, without stupid people, who would we laugh at?
I have already been pulled aside and asked to not discuss politics with her.
Just start prefacing all interactions with her by saying "The following verbal expression may or may not contain a trigger warning."
Well at least he went out with a bang!

On Monday officials released new information about the incident.
"He placed the firework in the (mortar) tube upside down," McCausland said. "And rather than being projected upwards, it projected into his skull."
Well, that explains it.

Even if he had placed it correctly I bet the outcome would have been the same.

Yeah, it was a rock solid plan except for that one mistake.
Her Son Died By Lighting Fireworks On His Head; Now She Wants Stricter Laws (http://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/her-son-died-by-lighting-fireworks-on-his-head-now-she-wants-stricter-laws/ar-AAcGx67)
Devon Staples, 22, was killed instantly this past 4th of July weekend after he attempted to light a firework off the top of his head. Staples became the first firework-related fatality in Maine since the state first legalized fireworks back in 2012. While some may see Staples’ unfortunate accident as a nominee for the Darwin Awards, his mother, Kathleen Staples, sees it as a call for stricter laws regarding who can and cannot handle explosives.
Typical. There's no accountability for a person's bad judgment. The government must do something to prevent this.
Seems like natural selection to me.
