So, there is plenty of "what should I throw in my bag" threads. I was thinking. Maybe I could put together a small -- roadside, camping, bugout, shtf -- toolkit.

I bought this "tool roll" and I thought it would work nicely. I could put tools in it and roll it up and stick it under a seat of the car or whatever since I keep my get home bag in the car too this could hold some inportant tools you would want with you.

So to start the conversation, I have my tool roll (http://www.amazon.com/Bucket-Boss-Brand-07004-Duckwear/dp/B00004T82P):

Bolt Cutters (http://www.amazon.com/ToughBuilt-TB-BC-01001A-14-Inches-Compact-Cutter/dp/B00582WQA2) for light duty cutting in case I am caught up and tangled in anything:

What would you put in your SHTF Hoodlum Kit Emergency Toolkit?

Keep in mind weight and space.

Super siphon hose,5 gallons of gas,assorted sockets/breaker bars,long crowbar,jumpbox/ tire compressor/light,couple of large wood blocks,funnel,floor jack.
Sounds like a lot but I have an extended cab Ranger so most of it's behind the front seats.

Shtf is different from auto break down but ill give it a shot.

My truck has a pair of jacks. A jack stand. A lug wrench and a star. A come along. 2 tow ropes. A ton of straps. Fluids. Gasket maker. Jumper cables. Compressor broke hunting a replacement. Flashlights. Funnels. Fluids. Spare belts and hoses. Boefang. Full mechanic tool set. Usually my work backpack full of tools. 2 resqme. 2 center punches. 1 knife. Winter gear. 2 inverters. Usually atleast 5 gallons of fuel. A gerber 600. A small shovel. A blow out kit in the drivers pocket booboo passenger side. Moist towlets. Gps. Maps.

I need a good test light

Get home bag. Klein journeyman dykes. Gerber 600 with multi use saw. Pocket chainsaw. Knife. Lockpicks. 6" crescent wrench

My BOB/winter kit blends a bit with an emergency tool kit. Especially with the jeep I find that I somehow end up with more tools in the vehicle than I realize.

So tool/car specific stuff, and ignoring the big bag with the usual BOB-style stuff (including mini saw, hatchet, etc) - I have a tool roll of wrenches, and a small bag full of various tools. I really love those small canvas bags you can find at most stores - has held up really well. The bag also has some easy fix-it stuff like zip ties, bailing wire, duct tape, fuses, straps and bungies, siphon hose, etc. Tossed in one of those smaller socket sets from Lowes - seems like I use that a lot. There's also a recovery bag in the jeep with several tire repair options, spare u joint, winch stuff, jumper cables, etc.

Just ordered one of these mini battery jump starter things, supposed to be pretty awesome.

One thing I don't have squared away very well is fluids. I need to find a good way to stash a spill-proof box of various fluids. There's actually a bunch of room under the jeep trunk that's high enough to not get in the way - maybe one day I can rig something up like a bracket for a 30cal can there.

Had bolt-cutters in there but I took them out at some point and never put them back in. Maybe if I got a folding set like yours they'd stash easier.

Also, I need to get and test some burner phone options. I know supposedly you can just keep old phones with no plan stashed away and they'll always dial 911, but I'm thinking maybe something a little more hearty. Guess that's not really a tool though.

A cheap GPS would be nice. The GPS in the jeep has gone bananas and I haven't got it fixed yet, didn't realize how much I started using it once I had it.
