I was driving north on Santa Fe this morning at approx. 7AM when I encountered our flag lying in the middle of the road...traffic was stopped and NOT ONE PERSON made an attempt to pick that flag up! I stopped in the middle of traffic and leaned out and picked it up. I am so pissed with this country right now...we are dying and no one cares..fuckers!

No one truly comprehends what the flag stands for and it's purpose anymore. I'm utterly disgusted...

The symbolism is stunning. I think we're actually dead, not dying. It was called some time ago...

Kudos to you, op!

It's funny you posted this, RR. Yesterday I was delivering to a house up here in the hills and it shared a driveway with another home. At the edge of the drive to the other house was a flag that had fallen over on to the ground, it was wet and dirty from recent rains. It had obviously been there for some time.

I went to the home and told the owner, kind of a dirtbag-looking guy, that I just wanted to let him know his flag was in need of attention and that obviously no one would intentionally let it get into that shape so I was certain he simply didn't notice his flag had partially fallen to the ground. He pretended to be all shocked and surprised and went out to the drive and retrieved the flag. He knew that I knew he was a douche, though.

Perhaps the other motorists believed that the flag on the ground was another red, white, and blue flag, which is currently worthy of disdain by those of the "common sense" persuasion?

Good for you Ready Room. I am glad you were able to recover the flag without harm to you or your vehicle. [Beer]

My story...
On 2 separate occasions in Sturgis, I have called out the band at the beer garden in the campground we frequent for their use of the flag (using to drape over their equipment as a cover at the end of the set).
On one of the occasions, I made/had one of the band members come out on the floor in front of the stage and formally fold the flag properly with me.

Wierdest part, I know there were quite a few vets in the crowd, yet I was the only one to say anything.

The band was apologetic, and several people from the crowd actually came up to me with positive comments after. Several in the crowd even stood for the folding.

Kind of like the Boston thread, I guess. Only takes one person to get others to act.*

Good on you OP, and best of luck in FL.

*ETA: It only takes one, but if no one is that ONE, there may likely be NONE.

I use a flag to cover my gun storage cabinet. I'd prefer to have it hanging in front of, but right now it is mostly draped over the top. It never touches the ground though.

Good for you, OP. Thanks for rescuing the flag from being run over!
I wonder how it got there? Did it fall off the back of a fire truck?

It's a damn shame that nobody else acted.

Thanks for picking up Old Glory.

If you only have the current status of this country as a measuring stick, there isn't a whole lot to be proud of.

If you're a fan of history, you realize how far we've fallen from our founding principles.

Thank you.
It's actions like this that still give me a glimmer of hope for this once great nation.

The flag only means something to those who understand. The understanding only comes from not taking something for granted. If you have never been asked to sacrifice or talked to those that have, you assume you are entitled to whatever you have without further sacrifice. Even so little sacrifice as the time it takes to simply pickup a flag.

I had no idea that was a use for OUR flag. Sarcasm intended !!!

The flag probably came unattached from some flag pole in the back of some patriot's pickup. Never quite understood that behavior. Good of you to pick it up.

This looks a lot better. It was very simple and I don't know why I didn't get around to it before. Thanks for the motivation StagLefty.

Thanks for saving the flag. I appreciate it. I have served our country as an active duty Marine for 23 years and have seen men, damn good men, die for that flag, for what it represents. I have told my wife and daughter that when I die I want to be laid down with my flag in my arms. I am just so disappointed in our current state of affairs in this country. I can get mad, really mad but it wouldn't solve anything. It begins with our children, they learn contempt and disrespect for our flag in schools, many no longer say the pledge of allegiance in the morning, or bother to talk about it's meaning in class. The schools feel that it may offend some students. Well, disrespecting the flag offends me, what about my feelings?

Thanks Ready. Don't understand the lack of respect most people give Old Glory.

A while ago I was driving by the gas station on Wadsworth and Mississippi during a storm and noticed that one of the grommets on their flag had torn out and it was dangerously close to taking off. I stopped and told the guy behind the counter about it, and he didn't really seem to give a shit. I was pleasantly surprised when I drove by about an hour later and it had been taken down.

I couldn't count all the flags that I have pulled of ditches along the highways in the metro area. Most are those little antenna or side window flags. But still, it is The American Flag !
After Stinko De Mayo though, I leave all the south of the border flags for the brush hogs.

I'd pick them up to save some money on toilet paper and kindling.

My neighbors did a group buy on full size flag poles before I moved in so it looks like a government compound at times. Being surrounded by houses with actual flag poles, I felt like a small, side mount one would suffice.

Great work. We need more like you. When I'm working I see many flags twisted or blown over. I always right them for the home owner. I never served but tell my kids every day that many have died so we can be free. It's the least a "civilian" like myself can do.

Was at a local pool yesterday with my son. The wind came up and the flag pole mount was being held on with only one screw. The flag was just about to come off and hit the ground. Teenage kids couldn't seem to care less. I took the flag off and brought it to their little office to put away safely. I made sure to remind them the mount needed fixed too.
