View Full Version : Aurora theater verdict
***GUILTY!!**
About 1.25 hours from the verdict, I will optimistically hope that the quick return leads towards a guilty verdict and the jury didn't buy the insanity defense. Fingers crossed.
Amen!!!! Guilty verdict I'm praying as well!!
Judge asking gallery to refrain from any outbursts or show of emotion, if that can't happen to please leave the courtroom quietly. Waiting for the jury to come in to the courtroom.
Judge is going through all the paperwork returned by the foreman.

Give him one bullet for every one he used. Start outside and work your way in.
My guess is part b is insanity

Great [Shake] what a waste of money. This jackass will end up costing us tens of millions of dollar IF we ever execute him. Should have just thrown him in a dark hole and forgot about him.
He isn't insane, he is a cold, calculating killer.
Here is a sample of the verdict form completed by the jurors. This should hopefully explain the answers on part B and part C.

Thank you.
The defendants chair should be electrified once the room is cleared.

I'll go with davesel's reply in the DC thread:
Buckwheats!
And Thank God the jury didn't immediately buy into the insanity defense.
Buckwheats indeed, fry the bastard!
What exactly are the ramifications (if any) of Part B being unanswered? I tried to look st the sample form, but I'm on my phone and it's clunky.
I am sorry to say that this was the easier part of this trial. The penalty phase will be much less simple to decide. It won't take months and given the apparent straight sweep on the verdict, this jury will most likely be leaning toward the death penalty.
We should keep this thread open for 10 or 12 years so that we can come back and review it while we discuss the progress of the legal appeals and numerous arguments for commuting the sentence to life in prison.
It was good to be exposed to so much of the evidence. My hat is off to 850 AM KOA for the numerous hours of live coverage throughout the trial.
Part B was only to be addressed if they found him NOT GUILTY. If they found him NOT GUILTY, the question was: Did you find the defendant NOT GUILTY on this count solely based on the defense of insanity?
Yes
No
Part C asks Did the defendant use, or possess and threaten the use of, a deadly weapon?
Yes
No
Thnks for that info, cstone.
I understood C, but was a bit confused on B as they were reading them off.
Tinfoil was tingling, I guess.

10-12 years from now it will give another Dem Governor the chance to punt on handing down the sentence of death to another POS and pass some more sensible gun laws.

I listened to some of the back n forth by the mods, giving info from the trial and excerpts of Holmes diaries. Anyone who sat on that jury and felt he was insane should have had their head removed. LUCKILY they saw through his defense attorneys game and went with a Guilty Plea.

Well, I am going to be 79 years of age in a few months and I just know that I'll be under the sod, feeding the worms LONG before this bastard finally get's his JUST reward. I'm feeling cheated that I won't be around to hear of him actually getting terminated.
I'm betting president Hickenlooper will just pardon him.
Good. Now kill it!
But...but...we haven't heard from the mitigating witnesses yet...

We watched this ordeal in detail starting very shortly after the attack to the verdict today. The Justice/Legal/Judicial system (several threads worth if somebody just starts them) worked.
Slow and ridiculous, it worked.
Now the disappointing part begins.
I don't mind spending a couple million to see him get a fair trial and good defense.
I do mind spending millions to keep him alive and incarcerated for the next 20 yrs on appeal.

An interesting sidebar-the jury foreman is a survivor of the Columbine shootings and today stared at the defendant during the entirety of reading of the verdict.

We will all spend much more than that to have him placed on Death Row where statistically he is about 95% certain never to be executed. All the expense with none of the benefit. This is my primary objection to the Death Penalty as currently administered in the USA.

This is where the disappointment comes from, in the "system" and society. From now until he dies, by what ever means/cause, we are stuck with ridiculous expenses and the offense of his continued existence.
Were I able, I would deny any appeal and order immediate execution.
He got what he asked for. I feel sad for the families and even the rest of us for having to even know he exists much less deal with his twisted reality. I only hope he does not appeal anything and gets it over quickly.

Allow him one appeal.*
When that is denied or he loses the appeal take him out back and insert a 230 grain pumpkin into his melon @ 1000 FPS.
*like it or not, it is our justice system.
May the families of the victims and those wounded find peace in their lives with the help of this verdict.

And what sucks, if Hickenlooper were to get replaced by a death penalty supporter Nathan Dunlap would not receive his sentence for years if ever. Some court would probably say that it would be cruel to give him the Hickenidiot pardon and then actually carry out his sentence

FIFY.
Even Texas take over ten years on average.
https://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/death_row/dr_facts.html
Add the cost of the appeals to those ten years and the cost has got to be close to a wash for life in prison.
I'm not defending the system, but the information on how expensive it is to society is available.

#48 is a little disturbing if the caption is accurate.
...and some stupid bitch thinks he doesn't deserve the death penalty.
Reading those captions made me stupid.
I loved the one about the picture of popcorn (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/shocking-photos-aurora-movie-theater-crime-scene-shooter-home-gallery-1.2355348?pmSlide=1.2355324). Apparently they've never seen a shotshell wad before.
How about all the "rifle" ammunition.

Good point. Mostly I just feel bad for people who are so ignorant about something they are "reporting" on.

Maybe I'm off here but I thought it was in bad taste to post the pictures of the theater. Disrespectful to the affected families.
The captions are extremely indicative of the misinformation sold as truth to the public at large. I also bet the manufacturers hated having their products associated with this event...

Agreed. I couldn't help but notice the Vortex strikefire(?) and the M&P 15 because their logos were clearly identified in the images. Bummer.

Picture #20 shows duplication of a lot of his load-out from the night of the massacre. Redundancy? maybe a partner backed out?

Overall, Holmes fired 76 shots inside the theater, including six from his shotgun, 65 from his semi-automatic rifle and five from his handgun
I'm confused. I thought that, according to multiple witness statements, Holmes AR jammed almost immediately so he moved on to another firearm. I know there was chaos, but 65 shots takes a bit of time to squeeze out without something like a bump-fire. Something doesn't jove here.

The mainstream media and the government are about equal when it comes to lies. Just two parasites that live off of their deceptions. Nothing will ever jive from these two sources!
The court transcript is a public record. If not yet available it will be soon. Anyone interested can go to the courthouse and read it for themselves.

The nice thing is you have choices. Even bad choices are choices. Everyday you can decide which media sources you spend time receiving information from and every few years you can pick from the litter of candidates put up by the two parties.
The older I get, the more I think public elections resemble the student government elections in high school. Being elected only mattered to those running and the school newspaper. Also, being elected looked good on a resume or college application. Most of the student body could not possibly care less about the election or who was running. Once elected, they have to work within the confines of their environment and they rarely ever accomplished anything.
