That goes on my list of the top 50 silliest over reactions I have heard outside of California; however, in California not shocking in any way or form.

Glad I do not live in California.

Good thing they found all of those guns and live ammunition after the owner died of natural causes. Who knows what kind of deadly rampage all of those lonely weapons might have gone on if they were not secured by the police. [facepalm]

What do you want to bet that the next of kin listed as the heir never sees any of it.

Or and I am just spit-balling here because its California it was the idiot heir that made the call.

That's a foregone conclusion. If the state doesn't do it, long-lost distant relatives materialize out of the woodwork and make short order of that sort of thing before the rightful people can get it. I've sadly experienced this firsthand.

That is completely retarded. Why on earth would you have to call the police in that situation much less evacuate a neighborhood???

They must not have told the residents why they were evacuating, because if I knew why I would have told them to get the F*uck off my lawn, slammed the door, and called a lawyer.

It must be tough going through life as a complete idiot.

I've seen this nonsense before and sometimes it can be profitable. Years ago a buddy owned a gunshop and a cali transplant came in with a 5 boxes of vintage 45-70 ammo. The ammo was unopened and from around the late 1800's. This guy was about to have a melt down just holding it. He found in his late Grandfathers house and was afraid it was going to blow up and destroy the home before they could get it on the market.

Another time a another guy came in with a military 30-40 Krag ammo belt with 20 or so rounds of original ammo. Same story was afraid the house was going to blow up. Neither guy wanted any money they just wanted to get rid of the ammo before it exploded.

If they followed that criteria here in Colorado they would have to evacuate the whole state.

Friend sold the ammo for a $100.00 a box and still have the belt and ammo. The belt is rare, not many made and fewer yet survived all these years.

Los Angeles police investigating a man's death discovered an arsenal of more than 1,200 firearms and approximately two tons of ammunition in his home and garage Monday.
The Los Angeles Times (http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-lapd-guns-20150720-story.html) reported that the unidentified man's decomposing body was found in his car, which was parked down the street from his Pacific Palisades home earlier Monday.
LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith told the paper the number of guns was "staggering."
"Our truck couldn't carry it all," Smith said. "We had to go back and make another trip." The Times reported that many of the guns had never been fired, and some were still in boxes with price tags attached.
There were no signs of foul play in the man's death, nor was there any indication that he had been involved in criminal activity. However, detectives want to investigate why the man had so many guns and whether the weapons had been linked to any crimes.
"We have a lot of work to do," Smith said. "Running the background, history and legality of these weapons is going to require a tremendous amount of time. It's not a crime to have a large number of weapons so long as they were legal to own and legally obtained. We want to make sure that's the case."

Since Californians want to get guns off the street, I'll take them off LAPD's hands for a dollar each, no five dollars each, and ensure they are never touched by criminal hands. I'll also dispose of that ammunition for them gratis.

Sadly all of those vintage / NOS guns are going to get chopped up rather than sold. Good thing CA has no budget shortfall or other need for the money that could otherwise be raised by selling them...

LOS ANGELES (AP) – An attorney said Wednesday that the body of a mystery man was decomposing in his car in the tony Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Southern California for nearly two weeks before he was found by authorities on July 17.
Inside his home, detectives discovered more than 1,200 guns, scopes, 6.5 tons of ammunition, bows and arrows, knives, machetes and $230,000 in cash.
They also found eight of the 14 vehicles registered to the man stashed across Los Angeles, including a Toyota SUV designed to drive underwater.
Who the man was and how he came to accumulate the arsenal and vehicles are questions authorities are still trying to answer.
Veteran defense attorney Harland Braun represents the man’s fiancĂ©e Catherine Nebron and identified him as Jeffrey Alan Lash.
That’s also the name coroner’s officials are working with and they’re in touch with a relative to try to officially identify the body, said Craig Harvey, chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
Lash and Nebron were together for 17 years and she believed him when he told her that he worked as an undercover operative for multiple unnamed government agencies, Braun said.
“The story itself sounds totally crazy but then how do you explain all this?” Braun said. “There’s no evidence he was a drug dealer or he stole these weapons, or had any criminal source of income, no stolen property, all the stuff you’d look for.”
LAPD Deputy Chief of Detectives Kirk Albanese said there’s no indication the man was doing anything illegal with the weapons. Detectives were reviewing everything, but so far the guns appeared to be registered to him. Many were still in boxes or had price tags.
Braun said Nebron and two friends were in a car at a supermarket early July 4, when Lash felt hot and had trouble breathing. For three hours they tried to ice him down.
“He wouldn’t go to a hospital and didn’t want any 911 call,” Braun said. When he died, Nebron parked him in a car down the street from the condo they shared, the lawyer said.
Police say they don’t believe there was any foul play involved in his death, but the official cause has been deferred pending further investigation.
Lash told Nebron the government agencies would take care of his body and the items in the home, so Nebron and her friends took a trip to Oregon, distraught.
When they returned about 10 days later, Nebron was shocked to still see Lash’s body in the car.
She contacted Braun, and together they contacted Los Angeles police, who found the body, guns and more.
The guns are worth more than $5 million, Braun said, and along with the ammunition, took three days to remove from the home, which remains piled 6-feet high with items throughout.
“Hoarding times 10,” Braun said.
Neighbors thought Lash was dying of cancer because he appeared to be degenerating over the past year, but Lash told Nebron that he had been exposed to nerve-damaging chemicals on a mission and his condition was worsening.
