1914 edition of a New York Sporting Goods mail order catalog

That and you know it's old because today's "New York" sporting goods catalog has a game of twister, Yahtzee, marbles and a "nurf" football. :D

$22? Wow, that sounds really cheap (by todays standards), but you've got to remember that you could typically expect to pay about $5000 for a family home ($10,000 for a really nice one).

I have a Sears Roebuck and Co. catalog from 1951, and they have M1 Carbines listed for $67. Garands for $89. Makes me sick.

I bought several Garands for $100 in the late 1960s and early 1970s. 1911a1 for $25-$50 on occassion. I guess those were my "good old days".

If you convert the price to a ounce of gold in 1914, then convert to todays gold price the cost has not changed much. Check out KITCO.COM
I'm not figuring collectoring prices or manufactoring improvements or legal fees.
