Hello, me and my wife just got our hunters ed cards and would like to buy OTC elk or deer licenses. I tried online but the process seems complicated and doesn't let me choose GMU ( I dont really care which one but I would need identical for my wife too). Is buying from retailers (who sells them) is better choice if we need to identical licenses. I hunted before (12 years ago but it was back in Europe so the licensing process is very confusing for me).
Thanks

Best bet is to go to one of the CPW offices. Then can answer questions and give you tips to make hunting experience better.

Thanks whats where I took the course. We both have ar-10's with 5 round magazines and I bought winchester supreme 168gr etip ammo. I just wish the whole process would be explained better online. I have general idea how preference points work but they didn't talk about OTC licenses at all. I would love to go for 2nd rifle season but online I didnt see the option how to buy 2 identical licenses for husband and wife.
As I understand that we need identical licenses if hunting together.
What GMU's usualy have OTC licenses at this time of the year.
As ridiculously contrived and needlessly complicated as the licensing is, I would go to a CPW office. This just makes sure all your bases are covered.

Look at the left over draw license list on CPW Web site.

I would second this recommendation. You can get questions answered when you are there as well.
OTC deer is only available for white tail and late rifle season (December). OTC antlered elk, unlimited, is available 2nd and 3rd season. You don't pick a GMU but there is a map of all units that are available to hunt and you can hunt in any of them. These are available at any place that sells licenses, Cabellas, Dick's, Walmart....
OTC with caps went on sale a couple days ago on a first come, first serve but have never gone that route so can't help much with those.

Yes check the regulations book. OTC is not by game unit, pretty much state wide with exception of about 10 trophy units. Bulls only. Deer are generally not OTC, limited only. Cow Elk tags also limited. Which check the website for over the counter with caps, or leftover.
Pretty sure Boulder and Weld Counties are excluded from the OTC licenses.
A portion of Boulder county is in unit 38 and OTC antlered is available for 2nd and 3rd season.

Will be hunting with a group of experienced hunter at GMU 18(second rifle season).
I also, bought leftover mule deer muzzle loader tag GMU38. No friends who muzzle loader or hunting that gmu(gmu 38), so I will be going in blind... Will try to scout that area(if anybody could make some area suggestions or general muzzle loader season tips would be appreciated).
Check out the Colorado Hunting Atlas online. Great tool to help narrow down scouting in a new area. There is a map overlay that shows seasonal concentration areas and movement patterns. Good luck!
