Just curious if anyone knows of any changes in regards to hunting with a suppressor, I'm looking forward to trying out my new Salvo for Dove season. :)

I've read the previous thread and it's good that Bob Thompson seems to still be with the DOW, looks like he's now the Lead Wildlife Investigator. I've searched and I'm not finding anything new stating that it's illegal so I think I'm GTG, but I thought I'd check here as well as putting in a call to the DOW.

Any thoughts? Anyone here ever done it and had to explain the legality to a DOW officer?

It's an External Custom Choke, if anyone ask. You're one of the beta testers for the Rocky Mtn Region.

IIRC suppressors are only illegal for big game.

According to Bob they're legal for all hunting in CO.

GK, maybe I'll just say that the extra 12" makes me feel good about myself.

You'll get a good workout shooting with that all day. I shot some skeet with one at a demo last month...not doing that for more than a few shots.

I've been unable to find anything in the regs to support that. Do you happen to have any idea where that might be defined. I'm happy to check myself if you can point me in the right direction.

Suppressors are legal for ALL game animals in Colorado. I found that on the GemTech website, in a PDF.

I thought I saw it in the big game hunting brochure but I cannot find it now. Maybe I was thinking about full auto.

Gotcha. Yep. Anything auto, full or burst is noted as illegal in the big game brochure.

They do need to update that list though. Says it's still illegal in Wyoming.

Here's a map of states that allow suppressed hunting. I maintain this map, so I'll try and update this page when it changes.

The American Suppressor Association (http://americansuppressorassociation.com) is one of the main lobbying groups getting these laws changed to allow suppressed hunting. They also maintain a map of states where suppressed hunting is legal. Their blog (http://americansuppressorassociation.com/blog/) is updated with their most recent legislative efforts and victories.

I have hunted big game with a suppressor for several years. Have even had the game wardens ask me about them a few times.

I don't use one for big game but I do use one when I'm hunting coyotes and p-dogs. I was approached one time as I walked back to my truck after shooting a coyote, turned out somebody had called me in because they saw a guy with a gun trespassing. The game warden and sheriff were both waiting for me when I arrived at the pickup. I had permission to be on the ground, and after a quick call to the land owner to confirm and a check of my small game license, I was on my way. The only thing that was ever said about the suppressor was when the sheriff asked how I liked the Thunder Beast. They never even asked to see my stamp.

I was contacted by DOW once while hunting small game with a suppressed 22. They DOW officer checked my license, and sent me on my way. Never commented or even seemed to care about the suppressor.

Was asked once by the local District Wildlife Manager why I hunted with a suppressor, my answer was "because I can".
