BCM Keymod 13" handguard

Son bought one against my advice. I thought it was ugly and told him to save his money. He bought it anyway, got it mounted up and Gawd was I wrong. The Keymod locks up solid and is feather light. Now I have to admit I'm trying to figure out how I can get a couple more!

I initially thought this one was ugly-looked like industrial shelving, ho-hum. But after handling it on the rifle it's the perfect diameter, smooth, no need for rail panels unless it's gets uncomfortably hot, (we haven't gotten that far yet.) And the keymod slots are a great idea, funny nobody thought of using them before and I'm sure they'll be the standard in the future.

I just wanted to post, I don't keep up on the industry and what's new. I wasn't excited about key-mods at all when I first saw them on this forum, but after handling one I've completely changed my attitude and I'm all in.
If you're looking for a rail or handguard/rail, this is a great one.

I was against them, before i was in favor of them. For the price point, the light weight , sleek construction makes it a worthwhile investment. I'm not a hang shit any and everywhere on a gun. I use them as it's more comfortable to shoot with an extended arm than up close / tight.

I had the same reserve with the KM, but I now have them on all my build. I use the Aeroprecisions handguards and they are great and light weight.

I have a 15" and love it bought it cause I like my arm fully extended I'm saving a few pounds with only having 4 parts on the rail. I changed my gas system just for the hand guards best decision ever.

It's probably the best handguard system on the market.

The set is lighter lighter than having M4 plastic handguards. Very small profile, smooth, has keymod, and no picatinny shit where you don't need it.

The only problems I have are the cost (actually not that bad, when you consider the first picatinny handguards were regularly $300+, and the finish is kind of weak.

My KMR gun is very light weight. Lighter than some of my SBRs. I like the KMR well enough to own one of them. However, I don't know that I will own a ton of them. I like the ability to swap stuff around between guns, versus the more permanent mounting nature of the Key-Mod. I don't have to worry about losing rail segments on most of my railed forearms, either. If you are the kind of guy who wants minimal bulk and the ability to put something on and have it stay there, I think the KMR is a great rail.

Modern slim handguards are great. The BCM KMR is one of the best and would be my pick for an ultralight weight build.

I have a 13" KMR and my only complaint is that I feel like I'm going to break it and I have put some pretty good marks in the rail shooting outdoors.

My most recent purchase was a fall back to the Noveske NSR instead instead of BCM KMR. The NSR feels a little better in hand to me, weight was not the main goal, and my upper was already tapped for the NSR.

Moving from my LMT MRP Carbine to my BCM Mid with the 13" KMR was like extreme weight loss gun edition. I could not believe how light the KMR rail is by itself, it could barely be considered a paperweight.

I like the weight of my KMR rail, but I don't like BCM's barrel nut, nor do I like the asthetics of the KMR. For the money and the negligible weight difference I prefer Noveske's NSR. The finish on the KMR isn't very durable either, although it has no bearing on function. I don't think you can go wrong with a BCM product, though. Provided it's properly installed (and not mangled by a ham-fisted oaf like me) it ought to serve you well for whatever you do with it.

I've got a no name keymod upper coming for the wife's rifle. I'm excited to see how it functions. This is my first foray into rails beyond MOE handguards.
