Just got back from watching Flugtag here in Oregon. Good day of fun. Now on our way to a pub crawl of some local breweries. Just needed to brag a little.
No pics?!?
Plenty. Just google "flutag shutdown". Throw in "by Coast Guard" if you want...

I'll try and get some pics up later, don't know how to do that directly from my phone. As for the shutdown, it was great when that big ol ship came barreling through the flotilla of boats. CG and the sheriff's were still trying to clear a path when that guy throttled it. The whole city is in an uproar about it.

"barreling" yhea, anyone with a video player can see it was hardly "barreling".
There's fault on both sides here. Yhea, the CG and LEOs were trying to clear a path, but other boats simply "filled in" the channel again behind them, leaving no way for the Spirit to make progress. There were also boats anchored in the navigation channel (illegal).
RedBull simply didn't keep the navigation channel clear, something they agreed to do. That was the root problem.
On the flip, the Portland Spirit shouldn't have pushed boats out of the way (note that the boat [singular, as far as I can tell] they it did come in contact with, people pushed off with their hands). But the Spirit wasn't going to get anywhere otherwise due to the uncooperative people in the channel.
Basically it was the typical wild party that got out of control with the typical drunk and/or mob mentality subset of folks actively causing a problem and then being outraged about the result.

Agree with everything you got to say. I'm just saying it was great fun watching both sides play out that one. Had a great spot up on the bridge to see the fools on both sides of it. Coming to Portland to visit the wife's family does not endear me to this city. Just provides lots of good joke material for me. This place is nuts.
But I gotta defend "barreling" only cause I've seen both very fast barrels and some very slow barrels.
Thvigil11 has been around a lot of barrels in his life.

This place is nuts.
What makes you say that?
