View Full Version : FBI: Middle Eastern Men Intimidating U.S. Military Families
http://denver.cbslocal.com/2015/08/04/fbi-middle-eastern-men-intimidating-u-s-military-families-in-colorado-wyoming/
DENVER (CBS4) – An alert has been issued by the FBI to all law enforcement agencies in Colorado and Wyoming involving U.S. military families and concerns about who may be watching them.
The alert says Middle Eastern men are approaching families of U.S. military members at their homes in Colorado and Wyoming. It mentions Greeley and Cheyenne, Wyoming as the specific areas.
In one case last May the wife of a military member was approached in front of her home by two Middle Eastern males. The men stated that she was the wife of a U.S. interrogator. When she denied their claims the men laughed. The two men left the area in a dark-colored, four-door sedan with two other Middle Eastern males in the vehicle.

If anyone is active duty, stay safe.
Stories like this make my blood boil. It's clear the enemy is being given aid and comfort right here on American soil.
I'm not military, but they are going to run into a military family that won't put up with there shit. I hope all the military and there families stay safe out there.
If the reverse were to happen in a muslim country, say Iran, there would dead Americans in their sedan.
On one hand, this is alarming news.
On the other hand, speaking as an ex-military wife, it's kind of nice to have such a stupid enemy identify themselves as such.
Hopefully, they'll run into a spousal unit that will know how to respond in such an instance.

The gloves need to come off, no more pandering and keeping it "pc". If something like this happens those guys need to have law enforcement, FBI, National Guard, whoever, so far up their ass in two seconds that they can't even see straight.

Yep.
No one will do anything because there is nothing you can do. Some guys come to talk to you, you going to just shoot them?

Talk? This is a threat. Military spouses, especially those married to people that have very sensitive positions in the DoD, know and understand that there are inherent and ever-present threats that they must be aware of. That leak of information (not this latest one, but the one before this) revealing certain positions and clearances means that now family members have been exposed and are made targets.
There is also plenty that can be done in response. It doesn't always have to come down to pulling out a hand cannon, you know.

I know that it isn't as simple as I stated to actually implement something that would clear legal hurdles. At the same time there would be validity about safety concerns to this type of behavior. There could be some common sense laws that would allow for some real follow up for these types of activities. Make it known that if you make those types of statements or innuendos you are going to be questioned. Everyone knows that if you are at an airport and make any type of suggestive or sideways comment or joke about carrying a bomb you would be pulled aside in a heartbeat. I know that isn't an apples to apples comparison but at the same time they both could be construed as a safety concern or potential threat. If you knowingly makes those kind of statements then you put yourself in a situation to be questioned. I think without it you embolden those who wish to cause harm or intimidate.

Use your head. Take pictures, avoid answering any questions or giving definite answers, ask questions yourself, call for help. If there is an immediate threat as defined under C.R.S. then use the force necessary but until then, you have to play by the rules as well.
Take a page from the FSA. Most cell phones have video capability. Get good video, ask them to leave while dialing 911 and the nearest friend or family member who can respond quickly. Spend some time at the range together. No one gets enough shotgun practice in, IMO.
If you know a military family member who may be involved, please ask them if they need any help. Even a welfare check on a neighbor helps. Sometimes just knowing that you aren't alone and that We all stand together.
Be safe.

HOWEVER THE LAW CAN WORK FOR YOU
Colorado Revised Statutes:
Use of Physical Force and Use of Deadly Physical Force
18-1-704. Use of physical force in defense of a person.
1: Except as provided in subsections (2) and (3) of this section, a person is justified in using physical force upon another person in order to defend himself or a third person from what he reasonably believes to be the use of imminent use of unlawful physical force by that other person, and he may use a degree of force which he reasonably believes to be necessary for that purpose.
2: Deadly physical force may be used only if a person reasonably believes a lesser degree of force is inadequate and:
A: The actor has reasonable ground to believe and does believe, that he or another person is in imminent danger of being killed or of receiving great bodily injury;
Based on past interaction between A person from the religion of peace and .mil members and installations. I'd say IF Beyond a Doubt one must do what is necessary

This is probably more important than recruiting stations (softer targets). But standing watch also IDs the house.
IMHO they are validating intel. And the only reason they would be so bold is if they know there won't be consequences. If they were to attack families (as ISIS has promised) I'm not sure what the response would be. There are people running the gov who think Muslims have legitimate grievances.
This would have impossible just a few years ago. I know what the response would been.
I'm not a friendly guy. So there is a very small chance of me talking to anyone on my property, unless they are a neighbor or someone I am expecting. I learned a short time ago, that just because you are on your property, folks can word things in a way to get you in trouble.
Menacing is a catch-all part of the criminal code. You do or say something and the folks that are unwanted on your property only have to say that they are in fear of imminent harm and things can quickly turn around not in your favor. Have something in your hand that the "victim" thinks would hurt them? Or are you PERCEIVED to have something in your hand? It is now a Felony.
Retreating to your home and not saying anything is what I would do.
I agree that they are validating info, the problem is that there won't be a next time to try to prevent anything. The individuals who've been contacted are already compromised and stand little chance of preventing a truck bomb through the living room window in the middle of the night a few months from now. Thus whole thing is extremely concerning to me and comes with a strong feeling of helplessness. I don't even know anyone involved and feel worried sick over them and their families.
I can't think of anything I could do that wouldn't require quitting my job and abandoning my own family.

I believe you misunderstand. I was responding to someone that suggested this was just "talk."
I certainly don't need to be told to "use my head" when determining what is a threat and what isn't. As I stated, "There is plenty that can be done in response. It doesn't always have to come down to pulling out a hand cannon," which is also in response to the "What, some guy comes to talk to you and you shoot him?" remark.

There are some things that compromised individuals can do. It won't prevent a drone carrying explody things, but changing up one's routine, not posting their photos (or family members' pictures), don't put sensitive information on LinkedIn, setting up security cameras and establishing procedures with family members (if Sally is approached by strangers, she needs to go back inside the school and find her teacher. If husband is in trouble, make a reference to "Uncle Ernie.") Placing specific sized boulders/stones along the edge of your property looks decorative and is a deterrent for vehicles ending up in your living room.

The victim may be conscious or unconscious.
Place the victim face down, apply knee to the middle area of the back.
Grasp the hair with the weak hand and with the primary hand make an incision commencing at one ear and follow the brow line incising to the skull to the other ear.
Now with the weak hand proceed to give the hair a sharp jerk upward and back towards the base of the skull.
A twist may assist in parting the flesh from the skull.
Have the primary hand with knife present in case an incision is required to finish the separation of the scalp from the skull.
Dance, sing and hang scalp from lodgepole.

All military members in the Colorado Springs area were given an OPSEC briefing a few months ago. We were briefed to take off our uniform blouses so that we could not be identified as military while driving home, remove military-affiliated stickers and license plate covers, and vary our routes, etc. None of that matters if you don't keep your head on a swivel. Be smart, be aware, and avoid bad situations.

Low capacity, unweildy frame, and over-penetrates in sheetrock/shear walls. Go with an AR loaded with 55 grain M193. The front door is as good a choke point as you could ask for against criminals/threats who are obviously lacking tact or insight.

This household returns fire. And we can within moments notice.
The simple fact is that the enemy is within our borders. It is just a matter of time. With the amount of undocumented border jumpers in among us, if only POINT ONE percent were really REALLY bad guys, we are in trouble.
The war is HERE. They are conducting the reconnaissance phase. And they are patient.

Not under ANY administration. The government simply cannot be trusted...period...end of story.
I knew you guys would respond in this way. If the government wants to use this technology to quietly and effectively eradicate this problem, they'd get less resistance from the public, and the enemy. I only even brought this up because I know that no administration has the sac to face any issues openly and directly. Since everything is going to be done in the dark and dead of night anyway, might as well be something for the benefit of the country. You know, assuming that government felt like doing it's job of keeping us safe while not disrupting us for a few days.

What makes you think they aren't doing this already?
Well, now that you have me thinking about it, I imagine both government and private orgs (Google... ie Google Earth?) have been doing similar work with Satellites for a while...but it may not necessarily be real time or "rewindable".
What makes you think they aren't doing this already?
Because we still have a Muslim problem. Oh no doubt they are spying on everything, they're just not using this in the country's best interest to keep us safe from outside threats. If anyone listened to the podcast, they have used this here, and caught a car thief within minutes of the crime.
There is this entire website as well: http://www.theboxotruth.com/tag/original-chapters/
This one is specifically rifles and shotguns: http://www.theboxotruth.com/the-box-o-truth-14-rifles-shotguns-and-walls/
Lessons learned:
Contrary to what we have been told, XM-193 does not seem to “fragment” when shot into drywall walls. After we were through for the day, we even shot several more rounds of XM-193 into the walls to see if we could get one to fragment. They did not. It is clear that they were tumbling and deviating from the flight path, but they were still penetrating the walls. Now, before anyone says it, No, I do not know how much damage they would do to someone after the 4th wall. But they would do some damage as they were still penetrating.
Remington 55 grain JSP and Frangible 5.56 also penetrated all 4 walls. So did the .30 Carbine. When shooting rifles, walls are concealment, not cover.
00 Buck penetrates 4 walls with ease. It is a great “Stopping” round, but there is a price to pay. Until someone invents a “Phaser” like on Star Trek, anything that will stop a bad guy, will also penetrate several walls.
Birdshot does not excessively penetrate drywall walls. But it does not penetrate deeply enough to reach a bad guy’s vital organs. Birdshot makes a nasty but shallow wound. It is not a good Stopper. Use Birdshot for little birds. Use 00 Buckshot for bad guys.
The sun was shining, it was a lovely day, and it was fun shooting stuff.

We were just briefed today that on 2 separate occasions this week the MP's observed a blue vehicle occupied by middle eastern individuals parked outside the gates taking notes. Also apparently they followed someone home after they got off work at some point.
Good thing we aren't allowed to carry on post. I would sure hate to be able to protect myself from such a clear and evident threat to my safety.
That was one thing that I hated. They trust military all around the world to carry weapons, but get back home and you are banned from anything that even looks like a gun on base. We had a guy go up for NJP for having a paintball gun in the trunk of his car, and the base CO said that he was lucky not to get jail time. WTF.
We just had a guy go down for having an upper in his room. Not a rifle, just the upper.
I almost went down for a paintball gun as well when I was in. There wasn't a Barracks I was in that there weren't at least 3 Marines carrying a concealed handgun. And another 5 or 6 with AR-15's in their wall lockers or vehicles trunks.

Exactly. PLUS, if you let them get that close, you have no chance of getting out of a serious situation. I can tell you, that my wife knows better than to let two males walk up on her and strike up a conversation.
My son received word about this shortly after it happened. The apparent ploy, as pointed out, is to approach the wives/girlfriends. I'd be rather surprised if these asshats decided to approach men, in their mind women are far more easy to intimidate. My daughter in law is quite capable of being intimidating on her own and is very aware of her surroundings-she's got the "momma bear" thing down pretty good too lol.

While true, I've absolutely had it and question why any decent person would give Fed .gov any credibility at this point. I would like to think there a high percentage of Fed agency/LE folks who have a problem repeating and acting on the lies. But then I am constantly proven wrong.
