View Full Version : Whitetails in Unit 104?
So, I rolled the dice today and bought a leftover doe tag, whitetail, for late rifle season, in GMU 104. Anybody know of a public place to go in that unit where there's whitetails? Seems that unit is crawling with mulies, can't say I've ever seen any whitetails.....

I have never seen a whitetail that close to the foothills in CO. Is that a private land tag? I almost bought a leftover elk tag in that unit last year but didnt know where i would have hunted. Elk are relatively few and far between there too though.
Hard to find public land in 104.

Conservative estimate that 1/3-1/4 of all the deer in 104 are white tail. That is the unit I hunt exclusively for deer.
I hunt the southern end and the white tail like the creek bottoms. Get out of he creek bottoms and most of the unit has mule deer.
According to stats somewhere in 104 there is supposedly 3.53% of the unit is public access. I would love to know where that is.... probably areas like Cherry Creek State Park.

Great info, thanks! PM coming.
I haven't hunted for white tail let alone any deer for a long time. I find bow hunting to be more fun than using a rifle. But sometime you just have to break out the old rifle and take them down at 100yd or more
Bump. Any leads to friendly landowners? I'm finding out there's NO public access land in 104.
I'm, so I have deer tags for 3rd rifle doe for 104. I do not see anything that specifies white or mule. Am I missing something?

i had one whitetail doe on a trail cam in 2010 and i saw a whitetail doe and 2 fawns on the other property i was hunting but I don't have either of the properties anymore because they were through one of my buddies and i haven't talked to him in years because we both started families and grew apart! wish I could find private property to archery hunt on out here close to denver like I had growing up in Michigan. instead i see myself leasing property in surrounding states for lots of money.

Don't have my tag with me atm, but it definitely says "whitetail only" on it.
I'm filing for refund and going for a different leftover tag somewhere else. I've communicated with two Rangers about 104, and got the impression I have a better chance of seeing God than I do of finding whitetails in 104 and a landowner that'll let me hunt.
I've still got my whitetail doe tag for Unit 104, anybody know a landowner there with whitetails that might let an old feller try his luck?
What are the dates?
Oh, duh..... Dec. 1-14.
