Big discussion on another forum reference Arizona DL's not meeting federal standards and starting in Jan of 2016 TSA will not accept them for air travel. The general consensus being to obtain passports for domestic air travel.

I've not heard/seen anything related to Colorado DL's, are we still good?

It looks like AZ is exercising State's Rights. They don't go on Daylight Savings Time either.

Arizona is among a handful of other states (http://www.dhs.gov/real-id-enforcement-brief), such as Louisiana and Maine, that do not have licenses that comply. In fact, ADOT is prohibited from issuing a license that meets Real ID requirements because of current state law.

[Dunno]

What makes a DL compliant or not ?

The person in position of authority whose hands it is in. Once again the same .gov who says we don't need ID to vote, tells us a State issued ID isn't valid.
I know it's not my meds.

If your CO DL has the gold star in the upper right hand corner then it meets the current Real ID requirements. If not, you may want to pay the $25 for a new one if you travel a lot.

No gold star on mine, either - guess I'll have to drag along the passport or passport card starting in 2016.

Passports for domestic travel?

Repeat after me: PAPERS PLEASE!

Control peoples ability to travel freely & you control the people. Maybe not in the next couple of years, but mark my words, it WILL get worse.

I couldn't get through security for a flight once because my DL had expired the week before and I didn't realize it.. The TSA screener would not accept it even though it was a real license and had a photo on it that was obviously me.. He said that if I had a social security card with me that it would be a valid form of ID..

So a paper card with no photo on it and was signed by me when I was 8 years old would get me on a plane but a recently expired DL would not.

Had to go back to the airline counter where the people laughed and agreed at the idiocy behind it and stamped my ticket which got me through the additional screening line.

TSA is a joke.

Per Colorado DMV website:

What does the gold star on my driver license/instruction permit/identification card mean? (https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dmv/faq-drivers-license#)The gold star in the top right corner of your driver license, instruction permit or identification card indicates that your card has been issued in compliance with the federal REAL ID Act (http://www.dhs.gov/real-id-public-faqs). This card may be used as identification for federal purposes, such as boarding an aircraft or entering a federal building.

60201

If your Colorado ID/DL does not have a gold star, and it has not has not yet expired, it can still be used as stand-alone identification to board domestic flights.

Seriously? Canadian driver license doesnt have smart chip etc and it's allowed by TSA as far as I know.

Passport card is valid federal photo ID within the US, and for entry "from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry" It is not valid for international air travel.

I used my passport card on a Caribbean sea cruise with no problems, but had I attempted to fly back from say, Cancun with just the passport card, I would have been refused boarding on the international flight. I did use the passport card as my ID to board my domestic flight from the Springs to New Orleans where I was getting on the cruise ship.

This is funny. The Colorado Div. of Gaming Investigators are State Police Officers. They have told us repeatedly that expired Drivers Licenses are valid for ID purposes. They are just not a valid Drivers License. It's not like your picture or birth day magically change on the expiration date.

Maybe other LEOs can weigh in here.

"Note: a weapon permit is not an acceptable form of identification."

WTF not? An illegal with a Kalifornia or Kolorado fukn issued DL can fly, but not a (daily) Background Checked (UT - State Issued) Concealed Firearm Permit holder? [facepalm]

(FWIW, I carry my passport just in case)

I accidentally handed my Dougco issued permit to a TSA agent in Omaha. The look on her face! [ROFL1]

I don't know how else to type it... you don't need a gold star for domestic air travel.

I'm not going to worry about this because I refuse to fly again until my CHL is good on the plane.

I got the TSA precheck with the global entry added on. They give you a Global ID - which is what I use. It doesn't have you address on it - so no one knows what state you live in.

Maybe it was a company policy or, most likely, most people have no idea that an expired DL is a valid ID still (assuming that the Div of Gaming/State Patrol guys know what they're talking about).

For IDing for alcohol, gambling and even Federal Tax ID purposes for us in a casino, an expired DL is fine - again, according the Div of Gaming Investigators.

yeah I've never heard it was valid before ( if expired) and doing a quick google.. everyone else ( even the TSA) says the same thing...

Side Story......

Bout 17 years ago I was not allowed to gamble in blackhawk with an expired .mil dependent ID. the gaming cops even came over and said tho he believed I was over 21 I could not continue to play and needed to leave .

I'm not discounting what you say you were told.. .....

I have used my CO CHP as my ID at numerous airports around the country (DEN, IAD, BWI, SFO, DFW, ORD) and never had a problem. The TSA looks at you funny but then waives you through. Last time I did this was in March. YMMV.
