Interesting tale-
Bought a college buddy's Norinco NHM91 RPK back in the mid 90s. He needed the cash for some drum equipment (he was in a pretty good band). Totally figured he was going to buy it back from me before he graduated (he was a year ahead of me) but never did and as is life, we lost touch. It's sat about 17 years or so in either my closet or now my safe and I have only shot it 3-4 times.
The stock was cracked when I bought it, but I didn't really want to put any money into it until my wife wanted to shoot it for fun about 6 years ago. I dropped in an el-cheapo tapco stock and grip (much shame) but did put in a MI foregrip (it wasn't in the best shape either): https://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=241
I've looked on gunbroker here and there out of curiosity but never really interested in selling as I have the space to store it so might as well keep it... until recently. I have something in mind that I want to get and thought if there was enough value there I would sell it. Probably gunbroker- out of state as it came with a 75 round drum that would go with it (along with the standard mags).
I doubt it is in great condition but frankly, I have no idea.
Any local C Springs AK aficionado's out there able to give me an opinion?
Depending on what I find out, I may have this moved to the trading post but as of now, I'm just totally clueless on the quality/value of it.
Thanks!

BobbyZ / Zteknik is in your area.
Pictures are usually a real help when one needs ideas for pricing.
Is the original stock set there? Is or was it a thumb hole or actual butt stock? The orange[ish] hand guards still there. Does it still have the bi-pod, flash hider, even the box? Those items will help value wise.
Unfortunately the market for 20" AK's is kind of soft.
By all means stop on by.
Like Jim said the market on RPK'S is soft right now and it depends on what is all on it as well.
Chinese drum is worth $100 and up depending on condition and markings.
Roughly Chinese aks -mak 90's are going for $600 or so so an RPK may get a higher premium say starting around $700 .
Again it all depends on condition and what is all on it.

Are you sure it's a "RPK"? The NHM91 was known as the "Hunter" model and was an attempt to attract buyers that weren't normally Kalishnakov fans.
Heavier and long barrel similar to the RPK but it is still just an AKM.
There weren't a lot of them brought in but they were poor sellers and never popular.
In this market a unmolested one would bring $5-600.00 IMO.
The true Norinco RPK models were in the 80 series of model numbers and are very rare. They sport the thicker (1.5mm) receiver, bulged trunnion, longer barrel than NHM (21-22" IIRC) and club foot stock. A unmolested one in the box and all accessories would bring at least $1200+, very likely substantially more.
I have to argue on the drum mag, a Romanian drum will fetch $150.00+ and if yours is a true ChiCom Norinco drum I would think $250.00ish and are highly sought after.
Unfortunately in this lovely state it is worthless as it cannot be lawfully transferred.

If the market will buy them. Last one i had (Triangle 36) sat for 2 weeks on 2 other sites, before there was even an offer. The introduction of the 60 round surefire mag, not to mention the beta drum & the korean knock off, has about killed the demand for the original wind up units.

Yea-was planning on getting to the photos last night-life got in the way.
Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks for the offer. Once I know my work schedule I'll ping ya. Would really like someone put eyes on to look at. Ping you in a few days.
Thanks for the clarification on that Bert. I was thinking the NMH91's were stripped of the rpk stuff for import. But since you mentioned the hunter I now remember how they marketed them. Think they actualy called it the Norinco Match Hunter? Some were milled recievers too from what I remember.
Your spot on with the drum pricing, after looking at what I posted I had a duh moment [facepalm], I meant to put down $200 or so.
Yea muddy, give me a ping , I go on vacation the 15th so I have plenty of idle time. :)

Shame the original furniture isn't there. That aftermarket stuff (IMO) ruins what value there is . The Norinco drum (Triangle 36) at one time fetched big bucks. Now, like AR's the market is much harder to find a buyer.

Want to say thanks to zteknik for taking some time to take a look at it, give me a lot of insight of the in/outs of the AK world.
Things like threads for the muzzle break, the D on the sights, the cover isn't original, looking for the same serial number across multiple parts-all important stuff. But yup, throwing away the furniture was a bad move-sometimes having an anti-clutter OCD issue is a bad thing.
Got a price point from him which honestly wasn't that far off from what I was expecting. Will probably ponder for a bit about it. Just wanted to say thanks again. And of course if other people have comments/suggestions, happy to listen.
Anytime.
If your not pressed for cash I would hold onto it. Makes for a great range toy ;)

Put it in the right stock and its worth more.
But unless its new in box its not that collectible right now.

The original furniture was a crappy American made thumbhole stock and a weird thick handguard nhm91s are not true Chinese rpk's they are look alikes for the US market they are basically mak90's with slightly heavier barrels and longer barrels. They take the same barrel components as a mak90. Looks like you might have the original bipod which is a plus. There's no such thing as "original military furniture" for an nhm91 since it was made for the American commercial market though one I had I put Chinese type 56 ak47 furniture on it and it looked great (kind of dmr-ish)

ahh thanks-yes it was a an odd looking thumbhole stock.
Unfortunatly, my buddy didn't give me the bi-pod, that is an aftermarket.
been busy, but will probably post it up in the trading post sooner or later when I know my schedule is more free to be able to respond to inquiries.
