View Full Version : FU Appendix
So on Tuesday night I started to get some pain in my abdomen along the lower right area. At first I thought I had pulled a muscle somehow. Then, I woke up yesterday in enough pain that I called in to work. When my wife got home and it wasn't any better I got driven to the ER where they gave me a CT scan and then transferred me to St Anthony's North after only a few minutes with a diagnosis of appendicitis. Got it removed last night and I'm now at home with 3 incisions to heal up for a week before I can go back to work. All this crap for a non functioning organ pisses me off.
Must be something going around. You're the second member in the last week or so. Hope it isn't gun related.
Hope you you get to feeling better soon.

Appendicitis is contagious??
[panic]
Yikes! I'm glad that you were able to get it removed. That could have been much worse.
At least you must have decent insurance, good on you.
One of my colleagues had hers out 3 weeks ago... definitely contagious ;)

I had mine out about 8 years ago. I was at work, started getting some pain in the lower right, and it was bad enough that I went home, but not awful. I got home, turned on the TV, Jeopardy happened to be on the moment I turned it on, and the very first question was "If you have this pain in your lower right abdomen, you need to go to the hospital". "What is appendicitis Alex".
Weird as fuck. I didn't even suspect appendicitis, but I did go straight to the hospital and it was. The pain got really bad and I was in agony by the time they were taking it out.
In hindsight, my appendix hurt me for years. Always after I'd go for a long run it would hurt for a couple of hours, but I never knew what it was.
Get well soon! Could've been worse.

Yeah, you'll heal up quick.
Did they ever do a "rebound" test on you? Mine was already blown, and the rebound test was the most pain I've ever felt in my life...and I've jacked myself up pretty good a few times over the years.
It blew when I was 17 y.o. btw.....10 days in the hospital to get all the green bile cleaned out and stuff.

I got one in third grade and I toughed it out until I couldn't take it anymore. Turns out I could have died had my parents not taken me to the hospital that night. I had a giant tube draining fluid out of my stomach for a week. Having that tube taken out is something I still remember. Felt like being turned inside out (I think anyway, not really sure what that feels like).

There was a Rocko's Modern Life episode about his appendix on when I got to the hospital. It was weird as fuck.
About the only tests they did were blood and a CT scan and then straight to an OR. During the next day visit from my surgeon he said I had about 12 hours longer before it likely would have burst, and if it had gotten any more inflamed I wouldn't have been able to have the laparoscopic surgery. Which means I'd probably still be in a hospital room.

Mine went bad last year...
Pain doesn't register with me real well, which is a problem, so by the time I actually felt something wrong, the thing was just shy of blowing up.
Turns out it was ~3x the normal size when they cut it out. In and out of the Hospital in 20 hours, and then a week of no work due to healing.
Way better than this last round... Pancreatitis that led to 40 days in the hospital, almost 80 days without a single bite of food, and then another month on the end for just flat recovery. It's bad when they take an organ and tell you it was "dead and gangrenous"... Stupid gall bladder...
Anyway, heal up quick, and get back to it!

Yep....and the stink when they removed that drain was.............lets just say it made me want to hurl.
I thought this was going to be a giant thread about all the thing we hate...
