View Full Version : teaching someone to fly fish tomorrow don't know where to go
Teaching a friend to fly fish tomorrow but have no idea where to take her. I normally fish southern Colorado but haven't done any up here. Looking for a place within an 45 to an hour that will offer some potential to catch something and isn't surrounded by trees so the casting won't be to hard. Any ideas George Town lake looks promising but hear it's pretty crowded

Take her to Waterton Canyon. Walk down the road until you are past the big pipe that is suspended over the road. Keep going until you see a big (huge) rock in the river (about 2 miles from the entrance). This is a relatively open area along the river with good fishing (10" - 12" stockers). You'll probably see the bighorn sheep herd near this area.

Try downstream of Chatfield on the S. Platte. Take the Platte Canyon Rd exit on C-470 W just after Santa Fe and before Wadsworth. Take a right at the yield sign, then a right at RPM Motorsports. Follow the frontage road to the end and there's a couple of parking areas. This is where C-470 goes over the S. Platte. There's a couple of small'ish ponds there too. To get home, you have to get back on C-470 West to Wadsworth, then bang a uey to get back on C-470 East.
