After losing Harry (our Rottie) a couple weeks ago, our other dog Tango had a terrible time. She wouldn't leave the spot where he died. My wife and I are still in the throws of grieving for Harry, and really weren't feeling ready for a new dog, but we had to do something for Tango, so we ended up getting her this little guy. He needed a home, and Tango needed a friend. And now she's coming out of her funk, wagging again, and doing a great job showing him the ropes.
Without further ado, meet Calvin:

Brother Jeff, you made me smile. Only the second time in the last week I've done that. Wonderful news brother. I think Calvin will help you through your grieving.
ETA: But be careful, the second pic has mischief written all over it.
He's SO cute!
Calvin will be a balm to your souls. I'm glad he's pulling Tango from her grief, and he'll be good for you both- just as you are providing him a much-needed family.

Oh, he's got "mischief" down pat! Glad he made you grin. He's got a good spirit. He's keeping us busy, sleep is at a premium. But I think Harry would approve.

Nice looking pup!
Cute pup.
Not what I needed to see. Going to try and go dog free for a while. My rescue friends are already putting together lists of potential dogs.

I get it. If it weren't for our other surviving and lonely dog, we wouldn't have adopted him. Honestly, I feel guilty in some ways, and it felt disrespectful to Harry to "replace" him so soon. But Harry has not been replaced, and Calvin will be his own dog, not a replacement for Harry. And Calvin is helping Tango, so I think Harry is ok with it.
Take your time. Honor the memory of your friend, and allow yourself to grieve. I believe that when it's time, your next dog will find you, and then you'll know it's time. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Pffft... I don't even like dogs. But he's kinda cute, I guess...in an adorable, fuzzball, puppy-breath, wish-I-had-a-dozen-of-em kinda way.
Great looking pup. You'll always have your memories of Harry and you get to make new ones with Calvin.
Awesome, Calvin is a great name and hes a good looking puppy.

Wow, your Tango looks just like the dog we got as a companion for our Rottie. Good looking new pup, too.
So darn cute. Must come see him.

That is exactly it. No puppy ever replaces your old dog. They are a new love in your life. I always try to have my dogs in pairs. When 1 dies the other will go into a deep depression, until you get them a little brother or sister. The bond that the old dog makes with the pup is special and life long. He is a really good looking pup BTW.
He is a cutie!
I'm still going to stop by soon and get some of that puppy breath [Coffee]
Looks like trouble to me, hide the shoes and anything chewable.
I'd say he found a good pack (family), show us some pics of him in a few months, these pups grow fast!

I'll post pics as he grows up. He's already putting on some pounds! Maybe we should have a dedicated thread for dog pics? I'd like to see everybody's four-leggeds.
Yes ! I always like to think of like a reincarnation type thing. Congrats on a great pup.

Ok, wanna see something I find a little peculiar? This is the last picture ever taken of Harry, about 30 minutes before he died, rolling and being a goof:

and this is one of the first pics we took of Calvin, shortly after he discovered the back yard. He flopped down and struck that same pose, at the same spot that the previous pic of Harry was taken. Didn't notice the similarity until we were scrolling through pics.

Nice. Tango needed a friend.
Congratulations! Calvin looks like a fine addition to the family. [Awesom]

Every Rottie I've ever had did that exact pose, is a breed thing.

This post from UncleDave nailed it. I'm happy for you and your other pooch that you are able to bring this little guy into your home and into your lives.
By the way Ziva approves!
