I was awakened at 4:30am this morning by flashing lights and multiple police cars blocking the street in front of my house. I thought it's Jade Helm or a raid, only to find out that the water main had ruptured in the street in front of my driveway.

I can't wait to see how this comes out. My lawn is literally floating in places. I have water shooting up out of every crack and control joint in the driveway and sidewalk. I was concerned that the basement would start to flood, but nothing yet. The street has a huge bulge in the asphalt. Probably won't be able to get in my driveway and garage for a week.

Then later (6:30) I'm trying to find the wife in the house when I noticed she was on 7 news standing in our driveway taking pictures. I went outside to find the neighbors coming out after seeing my house was on the news helicopter shot. I'm amazed that most of the neighbors didn't know anything was going on in the street if it wasn't for the news on TV.

Damn. Good luck, man. That doesn't sound fun at all.

Document everything with pictures for potential Ins claim / action against the city.

[ROFL2] (ETA: At the thread title, neighborhood awareness. Not potential damages)

Your neighbors don't have internet? Who watches the news on TV?

If I had a case of rubber ducks I'd let you turn them loose in your front yard until they get everything taken care of.

Must not have been anything, Jade Helm 15 is just an internet rumor...

Watermain issues, Walmart closing for plumbing problems, it's all coming together now.

Watch out for sinkholes! Those seem to come with water main leaks. And photos/videos sound like a great idea for insurance reasons.

I got home, the leak's fixed, water's back on, but the street looks like a war zone. The street is all bumps, deep cracks, dirt, depressions, holes, missing asphalt. The wife called me from down the street in front of the house wanting to know if it was safe to drive on the street to get to the driveway.

Basement stayed dry so far, took pictures of the slab because we have some expansive soils under it. Don't want to deal with heaving slab issues. The sidewalk out front and down the side street appear to have heaved and/or sunk in different areas. I hope they replace some of it otherwise, going to be tough winter with the snow blower. Already sucks having a corner lot for snow removal. Something tells me they won't replace any walks unless they sink 6". I guess all I can do is wait and see what happens with that and the yard.

Probably safe to turn off the sprinklers for a bit.
