As in the 10mm 4th generation Glock 40, not a Glock in .40 caliber. Picked up one as an early birthday present yesterday. I am still definitely within the pink clouds of a new purchase, but figured I'd share my initial impressions anyways.

I am not one for the Glock aesthetic, but I have to say I think this is the prettiest of all the Glocks. Long slide gives it some really nice proportions. It's also a pretty hefty gun, which is a great thing to have in 10mm.

Easier to realize just how large this gun is in comparison to it's .40 S&W Cousin, the Glock 35. Much bigger grip, much thicker and longer slide. The grip is bigger than I'd like, but I certainly appreciate having 15 rounds of 10mm on tap.

In comparison to it's little brother, the 20SF I bought for concealed carry in the woods.

I pulled it out of the box and dumped two magazines downrange at 10 yards. It took me a couple of shots to get used to the trigger, but thereafter, I was able to shoot fairly fast and my group tightened up quite a bit. Most importantly, I enjoyed it. Muzzle returned very quickly to target. I ran a magazine of Sig Elite V Crown and another of PMC's 200gr FMJ TC without a hitch. I was mildly surprised at the muzzle flash from the PMC, but otherwise, no excessive movement of the gun or undue strain on my wrists. It ran very smooth. I followed up on subsequent targets with the anemic but cheap PPU 180gr JHP, which also ran just fine.

I shoot a lot of 10mm, but not a ton through my Glock 20. Enough to keep reasonably proficient, but I much prefer shooting my single stack 10mms for fun. The Glock 40 may change that a little. It still has the grip that is uncomfortably large in my girlish hands, and the same crap mushy trigger with too much uptake that is standard with all stock Glocks. However, the added slide length and weight made it a joy to shoot, and fairly fast, too. Once I have a few more rounds on the trigger, I may see how it does at the bowling pin matches I have grown so fond of.

Thanks!

Thanks for the initial review.

I handled one recently and the two words I would use to describe it are large and heavy. As you pointed out, the weight is a nice thing to have in a 10mm handgun. And, like you, I have small, girlish hands. So the fact that it felt large to me may be subjective.

I would consider the G40 cousin to be the G24

Where'd you find the MOS model?

Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply in Fort Collins.

Those slides are so ridiculously long.

Well, I'm compensating for something else, naturally. Recoil, that is.

Yeah, not my cup of tea, although you could get a 10mm moving along pretty good out of one.

I don't think the recoil is bad out of the g20 would like to see how it is with this beast! It looks like it would be one heavy sob to carry on your hip. Cool purchase!!!

Ordered some Trijicon silencer height night sights for the G40. Plan on buying a Trijicon RMR for it at the end of the month. However, never one for patience, I realized I had a Burris Fastfire floating around. Glock mentions a lot of mini red dots, but does not mention the Fast Fire at all. Nonetheless, it looked like it would fit on the 1st mounting plate, so I went for it. Had to use the shorter screws that came with the plate pack to mount the Fast Fire, but otherwise, it went on without a hitch.

I assume someone will be offering a threaded barrel for this thing soon.

Lone Wolf has some interesting options, and I sent an email to SilencerCo to verify my Osprey .45 can take the pressure of a true 10mm loading. Obviously, I don't anticipate much sound suppression, but I do figure the added weight of the can will minimize any remaining muzzle flip and make it a lot smoother. I imagine the .45 version (G41) would make a much better silencer host.

BUSTED!! I KNEW you were cheating at those bowling pin matches.

Since silencers are now banned, I think I am just going to bolt a 5lb weight to a Larue mount and hang it off the frame rail.

Got my silencer height sights in:

Now just waiting for my threaded barrel and then I will send it off for a holster.
