The Humvee paperwork clears soon and I'll need it shipped from NC. Any recommendations on vehicles carriers? Good experiences, bad experiences?

I used Montway a little while back to get an old Impala from Pennsylvania to Denver.

It was about $1200 for unenclosed transport. You do need to have a somewhat flexible schedule on the pickup and delivery end. They basically have trucks running all over the place and when one is close and heading your general direction is when the dates are set. I imagine that's true for most services but I'm not sure.

In regards to Montway itself I liked them. The guy I talked to while arranging everything was very helpful about getting what I needed. The prices were comparable to the other services I checked. The driver ended up arriving a day earlier than planned, too. If everything went according to plan I think the car was supposed to come to my house. Since I happened to be out of touch in the mountains that day (again, I wasn't expecting it) I ended up meeting him near the airport so I wouldn't have to wait until the next day.

So there was my experience. It's at least worth it to give them a call.

I have some leave. Pay my expenses and I will drive it back for you. Will it be street legal at pickup?

I will provide receipts, and I tent camp, so food and gas would be the biggest part of the cost. [Flower]

Great idea...but I think I read somewhere these won't be legal on the road. I could be wrong about that.

Accelerated contracts out most of the time. They get it done quick though. If you want a true local experience try lamb transport

I have to be in Raleigh in a few weeks. I'll drive it back for you.

I appreciate all the offers to drive it out. It won't be in any condition to be on the highway at pick up, so it'll have to be on truck.

I know a lot of guys move bikes via UShip, but I don't know if there's any truck movers on there...

They're more of a brokerage service than anything else, putting shippers and haulers together.

I went through a broker that handled everything when I shipped my folks car to Florida in May, $800.00 <> and four days to Fort Meyers. Took a couple days before one of their trucks was in the area, they picked up and delivered and were actually on time too.
A Hummer being so wide it'll have to be put on a Flat Bed which may limit your options.

After making a bunch of phone calls I settled on a broker. Prices were all over the place, so they'll handle finding the deal.

I ended up with a broker when I bought a car out of state. The process was very frustrating as I assumed there were companies that just did it upon orders coming in. A lot of it is broker work and they wait for a truck coming from that city to yours (or at least passing through) and your car gets on board. I think it took about 2-3 weeks for me to finally get my car after purchase. Ugh. $650 from Minnesota to here though.

Had the first carrier back out. Taking bets on how many more cancel?
