View Full Version : ATF May Soon Reclassify Some Machine Guns as “Post Sample” and Non-Transferrable

Seems to be no end to how the ATF is whittling away our freedoms. Just make up some BS regulation, and turn people into criminals overnight.
Still haven't figured out how a suppressor is a firearm.

How these faggots keep it up...More reasons to shut them down and cut the funding.

Further proof that registration is generally a precursor to confiscation.

Registration is what you do when you do a "backround check" and fill out a 4473, But no one is worried about this law.

Anyone have a report from a reputable site?
I googled this, other sites ask the same question as you did with no answers.

It's based on "sources" in the link the OP posted . So at this time there's no Actual Concrete, Documented paper trail for anyone to verify. TTAG's has a somewhat spotty reputation when it comes to "facts"

Then build your own, using an 80%, or even from raw billet... no law against that.
Or put your info on a 4473... I've done both.
I'm beyond worry about "making a list"... if they want me, come get me.

Its the ATF, do you really think they would not do some kind of asshattery like this?

LOL, spotty reputation. TTAG's reputation is comparable to the reputation of a $2.00 toothless whore on Colfax.

Fellow board members. MSS clearly believes differently than some of (OK) most of us. It's his prerogative to do so. My mistake was not rechecking my ignore list , after the last outage.

Wow it's really gang up time here on the old forum. Well, do your best DS. Talk your best garbage. Call me as many names as you can think of. Put my posts in your ignore list, whatever. But I will NOT be silenced, I WILL voice my opinion and I don't give a hoot whether you like it or not. Have your fun, but remember, I have not attacked anyone.

Seriously though dude... Filling out a 4473 is not registration. Several FFLs have explained this to you in past threads.

Yes, I am an asshole, but I'm the good kind. :)
Now I've googled this topic again and still nothing except the TTAG site. So this claim is unsubstantiated and baseless, if it were true we'd be seeing more than just references to the TTAG site.

Yes that is true, but I maintain that when the FFL goes out of business we know he must surrender all the forms from his files to the BATF. Now where do you think that they now go? Does anyone think that the forms are just destroyed without the info being put into an ATF database? Why do you think that the ATF asks on the forms the firearms serial number and make? If they are just concerned with your backround check, why do they need the gun info???? My favorite FFL retired, and all his records went to ATF, and with that all the guns serials I have bought through him for 20 yrs. So do you think the ATF knows that I own those weapons? You damn right they do!

The only place they go when the ATF gets them, is storage.

So the same agency that is so trustworthy that it is trying to rescind a reg 20 some years old, the subject of this post, that same agency should be trusted to follow the law and not keep a database on the surrendered FFL records of firearms purchases? Ok. If you say so. I certainly hope you gentlemen are right.

Only partially correct. They go into storage while the backlog is worked. Eventually they will be scanned and cataloged - eventually.
There is a thread here where I explained this in detail, along withe the very negligible costs involved.

No. But the federal contractors do. IR&D galore with all sorts of data to mine.

When I sent my completed 4473's upon turning in my FFL 01, the BATF sent me a letter advising that those records will all be computerized. I did destroy all 4473's older than 20 years.

Won't help you now here in Kolorado, even second hand you are supposed to do the BGC which "registers" the gun with the FFL, and ultimately the ATF. Ooops, I forgot, I'm full of it, so, nevermind. Trust the Govt, there is NO registration.

A government report discovered the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) illegally stockpiles gun owners’ personal information.
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), the go-to federal oversight agency, conducted an audit of ATF and found it does not remove certain identifiable information, despite the law explicitly mandating it do so. GAO conducted reviews for four data systems, and concluded at least two of ATF’s systems violated official protocols.

I like the thread title "soon". LOL
