I went out this weekend to get some stuff for the baby room. I decided i would try the wireless camera approach instead of a baby monitor so I can use it after we have no need for a baby monitor. Based on reviews I picked up the Withings Home (http://www2.withings.com/us/en/products/home/). The reviews lied. It is the biggest piece of [pileoshit][pileoshit][pileoshit] ive ever spent $200 on. So when I take it back id like to get something that 1. Works and 2. Would work well as a baby monitor.

Do any of you have any of the common cameras out there that you would suggest? ie... Nest, Drop cam, Canary....

Nest HD/Dropcam they are one in the same now that nest bought them. I have 5 around the house, 2 as baby monitors.

To be honest, I don't think it's a good idea to expect to use the cameras after they are done with their "baby monitor" role. Camera tech is advancing so quickly that even the best camera system of today will be basically obsolete in 5 years and you won't be able to give it away (if it still works). On top of that, camera and system prices have been steadily dropping for the last 10 years and will continue to do so.

I use this for a baby monitor:

I bought it 2 years ago and I have a camera in each of my kids' rooms. It works just perfectly for less than the price of a single high-quality security camera.

Just an opinion. Take it or leave it. [Beer]
