I know there are varying opinions on Centennial Gun Club--I'm not advocating on their behalf, but got this notice in a Wilson Combat email:

Church Staff & Security: Free Security Training At Centennial Gun Club, (http://centennialguncclub.com) we care deeply about the safety of our community. Unfortunately, with one lone exception (the US Rep. Gabby Gifford’s shooting), all mass shootings in the United States since 1984 have been in “Gun-Free” zones. Criminals prey on these no or low resistance locales as they know that law abiding citizens in the facility are unable to defend themselves or others around them. We believe that church staff and security teams should have the opportunity to become knowledgeable, confident and competent in the handling of firearms. We are offering our training, trainers and shooting range to help achieve this.
We strongly believe in training and promoting firearms safety at Centennial Gun Club. This class is FREE to all church staff and security teams in Colorado. The focus will be on handgun safety, Colorado law and awareness.
The training for this class is planned at a location to be announced, November 7, 9:00am—4:00pm. Registration will be conducted at the Firearms Festival at Centennial Gun Club starting September 11.

I have no experience with CGC. Just out of curiosity, what are the varying opinions?

Hate is a strong word, unless we're talking about Dianne Feinstein. What did they do to cause said hate?

Some people have had issues with some of the staff and their knowledge/lack thereof on certain things. The retail section is pretty spendy.

I'm a member. I like the range, the classes, and the people.

Apparently, according to Monky, that makes me an idiot or something.

Since you're a new[er] member. Let me introduce you to The Advanced Search (https://www.ar-15.co/search.php) where you can browse older topics, some dormant, others CLOSED / LOCKED for good reason.

I think that you will be able to find that you can purchase items elsewhere for less money. If you have firearms-related questions, you have an entire forum of people to ask.

That doesn't mean you can't enjoy the Firearms Festival, the gun range, and classes they have at Centennial Gun Club...it's just a situation of "buyer beware."

Well.....um......uh.........wait......what? OK so I'm another idiot. Never have nor never will buy a firearm there as the prices are stupid high. I have however bought ammo and a few small items when they've been on sale. I'm a member because I feel it's the best indoor range around and it's 10 minutes from my home. I've yet to have a negative range experience-if I do I guarantee I won't be quiet about it.

I wouldn't take a class there for a few reasons-cost is a big one and the less than impressive credentials and tone of some of the instructors. I've had the good fortune in life to have had the opportunity to attend Gunsite (1978 the first time) and Thunder Ranch (Texas) so I like to think I've been exposed to some good instruction.

The festival is good for an hour or so of browsing the stuff offered by the vendors, generally just being a lookie loo. Hell I'd accept a free gun from just about any store in the metro area.

I am going because a friend of mine in the neighborhood wants me to go, but I will not buy anything while there. This is due to the fact they would not take back an out of spec lower they sold me claiming it was mil spec. The owner and the clowns working there are a bunch of jackasses in my opinion. I want even buy a soda from these fuckers... Fuck Centennial Gun Club!!!

So, new guy, there's a few of the varying opinions...hence my disclaimer. Plus, noting the ad came from wilson combat, not CGC (which is walking distance from my house)

I've only ever bought Fireclean there, as they're the only local store that has it. (Of course, now i just order it online for half the cost....)

Ive been there once. Haven't been back since. It was just central for the group of us that wanted to shoot some rounds. The range officer made it a point to laugh at all the steel case ammo we had, called his buddy on the walkie talkie to share in his laughter. Add that on top of them making us keep all guns next to him and have him switch out the guns for us when we wanted to shoot something different and it's not a place I opt to go to.

However, this does sound like a fun event.

That's nuts! We've been asked by the range officer to have only one gun per window , but that's not unusual at an indoor range, is it? I wonder if that range officer is still there? I've never had that experience. I'd be pretty pissed if I had to play "Captain, may I?" when I wanted to fire my own guns.

Yeah, it turned me off from them ever since. I could see if we were not being safe and they addressed it but nope, right from the get go. I was shocked but didn't have a choice but stay for that one time.

Did he uncase all your firearms for you? Or make you check in with him every time you wanted to get another firearm out? Btw I'm not a fan of CGC for a myriad of reasons. Just curious as to exactly how they made you uncase your gats.

He had us set them all by the back wall, where he was standing, and only take one up a time. "Just set it down and I'll come exchange it".

Needless to say, it was not a very fun range day. :shrugs:

I'd have reported him because, as far as I know, no weapons are allowed behind the firing line uncased. I've had multiple firearms on the bench with actions open and no problem. I think the RO turnover there is high as I see new guys all the time. Younger people. Shouldn't all these posts here be more relevant in the Dealer Range review threads?

I think I had a member siting at the festival, although I'm not sure: 2014 (?) Project Appleseed t-shirt, 5'10-ish, baseball cap, helping a lady with choices from the table with the XDM assortment?

It could have simply been someone helpful, but for some reason I thought it might have been a forumite.

How was the fest?

TheGrey
09-13-2015, 10:35
Not too shabby! The sun was freaking HOT, so we didn't stay outside for long. There were many booths with items and services of interest- including some that catered to ladies that were only there as support for their SOs- cosmetic creams and stuff, a couple of firearm jewelry booths, CC purses and so on. There was live music, and that band was pretty good. There was a big slide and a rock wall for kids, the sheriff's department had 3 vehicles there for kids to climb in and talk with officers, and there were LOTS of guns trotted out for the event. Inside was an orderly madhouse. Many rifles and such, but aside from the one that looked like a Dalek, I couldn't really tell them apart. There were contests, drawings, free classes, and sales galore. Oh, and a ton of knives.

All in all, it was pretty good. We didn't buy anything, but I got a chance to speak with the Springfield rep, and got to handle many XDMs and have decided to try one when I'm at the range next. You didn't have to be a member to attend, so if wasting a little time looking at guns, talking gun-related subjects with enthusiastic people and listening to good music appeals to you I'd suggest trying it next year.

One thing: the field where they had the pop-ups and vendors outside was FULL of noxious weeds. I'm talking man-eating nettles and one particularly troublesome critter that managed to crawl all the way up my pantleg within a few steps. If you have small kids and plan on attending next year, carry them through the vendor row.

I only signed up for a chance to win a 1911- and with the way that box was stuffed, I doubt I'll win it. I left my phone number and gave a rusty shackleford email.

There were a LOT of rifle-related contests. I just wasn't interested in any of them. There was a nice AR on display for a contest, but the crowd was too thick.
