It's time for Mason, my best bud in the world, to go on. He turned 18 in June so he had a good, long, fun and active life. He will be missed dearly.
I have a pound of bacon cooking in the oven for him to feast on tonight and tomorrow morning, then we go. I'm balling my fucking eyes out.
Sorry to shit on the "dog people" thread. Just bad timing.

Sorry to hear, but glad you were able to give him a long and happy life. Horrible year for the canine family members around here, hope you all find comfort.

So sorry. What an awesome gift, to have had 18 years with him! Surely that longevity deepens the hole he'll leave, but wow!, what a time y'all had together! I'm sure the two of you have many stories. Remembering those stories will help you with the loss, in time. There's nothing anyone can say to lessen your pain, but I expect you know that we get it. Hang in there. Scratch him behind the ear for us.
Godspeed, Mason.

What will you and Mason be washing your bacon down with?
While it's a time of sorrow. Celebrate the good times you sharedd together.

Rough day for sure.
18 years is a helluva run. [Beer] Best wishes for Mason and your family.
To a dog who has known 18 years of love and returned that love ten fold.
Enjoy the bacon Mason! [Beer]
Sorry, GG. 18 is a good run, and I'm glad to hear you guys gave each other a good life.
I'm so sorry for your pain, GG. Mason will only be gone for a little while, and you'll see him again. 18 years of wonderful companionship is a blessing.
Cry your eyes out. It helps a little.
Sorry man , glad to hear he had a good life. That's about all we can do for them. But damn do I wish they could talk sometimes.
I've had them go alone , and some I've got to say goodbye to , still can't figure which is harder.
have you guys seen the Subaru commercial , with the dog and his owners list ? Damn thing gets me every time.
" A pets peace "
you gave me all the love you had.
You did so much for me in my time here
and i'll always hold those precious times near.
I know someday you'll find love again
and into your life will come a new friend.
Your heart will heal, though you'll never forget
memories like the first time we met.
Memories are wonderful, so keep them close
and remember all the good times the most.
Up in the Heaven for animals is where i'll be
and someday in the future, each other we'll see.
I am at PEACE now, so please don't be sad
You gave me all the love you had.
Dogs are great, it's hard when your bud leaves the family.
regards,
Griff
Damn it man I'm sorry you have to do this.

He'll have a good last day! That's important. The last GSD I had to put down wolfed down 2 doughnuts right before the injections. He was bright eyed and tail wagging to the end.
So sad GG.
Are you using one of the in home vets?

Makes me wonder what my pup would want for a last meal. I think a nice NY strip would do it for him.
Sorry to hear GG but good on you for making his last day a good one.

Sorry to hear, the tail wagging to the end is what I will never forget when we had to put our dog down after 17 yrs.

Been there. It is profound understanding the dept of a man's being when confronted with this decison. Prayers and support. I got three of mine waiting in the field to play with yours.
On one hand, it's such a sad thing to go through. On the other hand, 18 years of unqualified, unwavering and unconditional friendship. Cherish the good times during these hard times. You have lots to choose from I'm sure.
Rest easy Mason.
