Hey all,

Haven't been on here in a long time because of life, but I'm hoping to have some folks keep an eye out. I had some fine upstanding gentlemen break into my house the other day and steal my rifle. See below for info and picture:

1957 Swiss Karabiner Model 1931 (K31) - Serial#P410305
Was stolen with one 6 round magazine and about 200 rounds of 7.5x55 Swiss ammo

They didn't take anything else and thankfully I had my Sig on me or I fear that would have been stolen also. Apparently there are some people breaking into houses in our neighborhood to look for guns, I think we were the 4th or 5th house that had been hit in the neighborhood in the last few weeks. We live in a fairly nice, new neighborhood that is still being built so my guess is that some people associated with the construction crews running around, but that is pure speculation.

If anyone happens to see one running around let me know, my best friend gave it to me when he shipped off to basic 3 years ago so it has sentimental value. Thanks guys.

I sure hope he passed a background check first!
[facepalm]

Sorry to hear about it. Theives are piles of [pileoshit]. Unfortunately, construction traffic always brings extra crime in my experience.

We live off of Gun Club and 6th, basically E470 and I-70. There are 3 neighborhoods right there and we are on the east end. The one in the middle is putting up 100-200 new houses so that's where I'm guessing these guys are coming from.

We used to live in the hood and we never had a single problem. Damn suburbia living...

We moved out there because it felt like a safe neighborhood...it's so far out of the way too we figured we wouldn't ever have any issues.

Hey Pug, consider cross-posting the theft in the Stolen Firearms (https://www.ar-15.co/threads/8636-Stolen-firearms) forum. This way, it'll stay in an easy to find location in case someone sees something and wants to look it up (won't get pushed off of the page due to lots of other posts/threads.

Done and done, thanks for the suggestion. I browsed quickly to see if there was a sub-forum but I should have done a search beforehand.

NO where is safe. Nor should one think their neighborhood is safer than the one they moved from.

Thanks for the wisdom. Definitely know that now. Hindsight and all.

I will have the RSO'S keep an eye out for any, not an often seen Rifle at our range. Sorry for your bad luck.

I know the area you're talking about. There's not much there, for sure. Will keep an eye out for you.

There's a gun show in Denver this week end, might be worth handing out flyers to the dealers there. And possibly to the back ground check counter.... Or even eye balling the individual walk in sellers, it's a long shot, but more amazingly dumb things have happened.
And please, at least write down the SN and a basic description of any remaining firearms that you may have, and store it a safe place.

Pug, I am on a neighborhood social networking site, and several of us have been seeing a vehicle with an occupant taking pictures of houses, and whenever somebody tries to greet the individual they speed off. We are tryin to get the plate number to give to our Police Area Rep for records. Perhaps some of your neighbors have noticed similar things happening. I am right down Gun Club from you (Gun Club and Hampden area). Perhaps these folks are casing neighborhoods before they strike.

Its not a dark colored jeep Cherokee is it?

I'm a next door and my neighborhood has spotted a suspicious jeep around.

All we have been getting from the several folks that have seen this is a "woman in a silver car" mostly the persons who post the "ohh I saw that happen a couple days ago" do not seem to think to get the license plate #.

Sorry for your loss. I would say get an IP cam like a WeMo and set to record and notify. Point it to the street and see you pick up the car in question.

"woman in a silver car" #. ...that sounds like one of my former HOA ho'es; she'd drive around snapping pics, taking notes any time someone approached her, she sped off or got snippy w/folks.

I think the show is the weekend of the 26th/27th, not this coming weekend. Would definitely look there as well as any pawns in the area.

That looks like a K11, does it have any unique markings you recall?

I don't know what can be done without a serial number. It's a used military rifle, not a very uncommon model. If LE comes across a gun like it how will you verify to them that it is actually yours? The serial number is critical in recovering it. The other issue is it's C&R eligible and if an adult has it, it would be easily sold without drawing any attention.

If I understand your description of the area you live, it's near that big cell tower just east of Gunclub. Being how far you are away from other neighborhoods, I would venture it's teenagers that are bored and it's too far to walk to anywhere else to shoplift.

Keep your eyes open...they may still be around and they probably were keeping tabs on you...knew when you were not home.

PugnacAutMortem, do you have any pro gun decals on your vehicle?

I actually got ahold of my buddy today who's deployed right now and let him know what happened. He called the place he bought it from and they are getting him the serial number. Once I get that I will repost here.

I sure don't. I don't even have as much as a Broncos sticker on my cars.

no, just MMA and Tapout. sorry, I couldnt resist.

I wish I was cool enough to have any of that stuff. And if you are going to make fun HBAR, at least spell it correctly. TapouT...very important to have the bookend capitalized T's. It's critical actually.

I demand reparation. Preferably in the form of lots of TapouT gear. 2XL. I'll PM you the address.

Make sure you report it ASAP with the serial. Pawn shops have to report intakes to the city in pretty short timeframes and they pretty much run everything. Check Armlist and Craiglist from time to time, as well as gunbroker. It may be a couple months before they finally try to sell it. You could also try to maintain a "WTB Swiss K-31" on craiglist and play dumb with inquiries.

All good info, much appreciated!
