View Full Version : Weirdness at elk camp

I went up early Saturday morning and hunted until about 2:00. Then I set up two tents at camp. Some friends of mine were coming up on Sunday. So I set up the tents and tossed some gear inside, then went out and hunted the evening until dark. I had some stuff to do at home so I headed straight back to the house.

The next morning I headed back out super early to dump the rest of my gear at camp and head out hunting. Here's where it gets weird.

As I'm unloading my gear, I notice that my sleeping bag and two camp chairs are gone. I KNOW I left them inside the tent the night before. Everything else I left was still there. There was nobody else camped nearby and I didn't see anyone while setting up camp. I was so f'n pissed that somebody had the balls to steal my shit. I've camped every year of my life and never had one thing stolen. It's kind of an unwritten rule, right? And who would have the nads to go into someone's tent during hunting season?

I head out hunting all morning in a funk, fantasizing about what I would have done to the bastard if I caught him in the act. At about 3:30 I return to camp........and my sleeping bag and both chairs are sitting in a pile right in front of the door of my tent. WTF?!? I am 100% sure the stuff wasn't there when I left that morning.

I don't think I'm losing my mind, so I guess the thief felt guilty and returned my stuff. That's all I can think of. You don't just "borrow" other people's shit in the woods without asking. I will never know what the hell happened.

Oh Hell, I'm laughing my ass off. [LOL]

Shits there, then it's not, then it is....

Good luck getting your elk!

Finally got the elk mounted. Short story is that it came from Reynold's Ranch, in the 40's and spent most of it's time in a log cabin. Pics to follow.

That's gotta be the biggest mount I have ever seen.

Glad you got your gear back, would like to know the thinking of the person who did it.

I'm usually gone from my hunting camp from dark to dark, and while nobody has messed with my stuff in 3 decades, this year I'm going to lock a trail cam nearby to keep watch on it. My gear supports my hunt and helps me be successful. If someone stole my stuff, I'd want to know who, and teach them a lesson they'd never forget.

If I were you, I would seriously consider getting that sleeping bag not only cleaned, but also sanitized before using it.
There is no telling what kind of little critters that the borrower has.

And you definitely don't want to try and explain getting a case of the crabs to your better half when you were supposed to be out hunting wildlife, not Hos.

Don't, under any circumstance, leave a chainsaw in camp unsecured!
