From the beginning I smelled a rat ... but I'm pretty cynical.

He didn't "invent" or even "make" a clock ... there's no Ardoino or RaspberryPI note even so much as a Heath Kit (do they still make those?)... he didn't make any circuit boards or stitch together parts bought at Radio Shack.

All he did is take the guts out of an old digital clock and put them in a box (I believe purposely making it look like a bomb).

My suspicion is that he did this knowing it would be blown out of proportion (no pun intended) and it could be capitalized on by his or his fathers' friends at CAIR.

The breitbart article has a pretty explanation about the whole thing, in short: Kid's dad is media whore and the whole thing stinks of a set-up or "never let a tragedy go to waste"

From the very first article/story I heard about this boy and his "homemade" clock, I felt there was something really fishy about this story. After reading a lot more about what happened and seeing the pictures of the "homemade clock", I think the school and the police would have been irresponsible to not at least throw up the caution flags and investigate further. Sadly , that's the world we now have to live in. After all, this wasn't just some pop-tart chewed into "the shape of a gun", this was a truly suspicious looking device.

The kids failure to explain to the police what the device was and what he was doing with it helped to escalate the situation. I honestly think this was his plan all along and he has learned to play the authorities and media to help his agenda. I'm certain that his father had a great deal of coaching in this event.

Either this whole thing was a setup for media attention to the "clear evidence of harassment and discrimination of Muslim Americans" or it was a trial for a real destructive device run to see how people would react, or it was both of these things.

The one thing this was not is just some kid trying to show off his "homemade" clock.

Sadly, this clock isn't accurate; It's the date of the next Presidential election. Obama will have another two and a half months in office after the date on this clock. I expect he'll use that time to REALLY do a number on this country.

I don't for a single second believe he intended it to be a "homemade" clock. I am certain this was either a setup to get media attention and or encourage people to walk on egg shells around future Ahmed's clocks.

The media and the majority of the country disagrees and seems to believe this kid actually did intend it to be a just a clock. However NOBODY can argue the fact this was not homemade and was not an invention. It was a factory built clock put in a case. Plain and simple. So even the people that believe this kid had honest intentions are celebrating mediocrity.

He has an invitation to the white house.
He has an invention to the Google Science Fair
MIT said they'd be glad to have him as a student.
Etc, etc.

Even if you believe he had good intentions, this kid is not gifted. He is not an inventor. He is not skilled. He's a mediocre at best. He couldn't hold a candle to any of the students at MIT or the contestants at the Google Science fair. There are tons of 14 year old kids who could actually preform the rudimentary task of building a digital clock from parts from scratch. There are countless 14 year old kids who can and have built much more technologically advanced things than a 70's era digital clock, which Ahmed didn't even do.

I despise the celebration of mediocrity.

Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disease that gets progressively worse with age so an early diagnosis is essential to ensure medication is most effective. Current diagnostic tools identify amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques, which are present during the later stages of the disease. I realised there was a necessity for an earlier diagnostic tool and decided to investigate further.

Aβ oligomers are present in much higher concentrations in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients and this increase appears during the earliest stage of the disease, making Aβ oligomers an attractive biomarker. This led me to develop a diagnostic probe that could effectively target Aβ oligomers. I engineered a molecular 'Trojan Horse' that had the potential to do this and cross the blood-brain barrier, a major obstacle for current Alzheimer's diagnostic probes. I determined the probes' optical properties and performed surface plasmon resonance to estimate their affinity to Aβ oligomers and to transferrin receptors (TfRs). The probes' cross-reactivity with various other species of Aβ was also determined.

The probes exhibited optical properties that were suitable for non-invasive imaging. The probes also successfully targeted Aβ oligomers and TfRs but their affinity to TfRs potentially allows them to cross the blood-brain barrier. These molecular 'Trojan Horses' have the potential to cross the blood-brain barrier and be used as a sensitive, minimally-invasive tool for the earlier diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease! This same concept could also potentially be used for the minimally-invasive diagnosis of other amyloidogenic neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and could help millions of people!

And Ahmed put a disassembled clock in a box.

Less than 24 hours after Ahmed Mohamed met President Obama, his family decided it’s time to leave America for good.

The 14-year-old Texas boy who was arrested for bringing to school a homemade clock that authorities said resembled a bomb will soon be living in Qatar.

“After careful consideration of all the generous offers received, we would like to announce that we have accepted a kind offer from Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) for Ahmed to join the prestigious QF Young Innovators Program, which reflects the organization’s on-going dedication to empowering young people and fostering a culture of innovation and creativity,” the family said in a press release Tuesday.

Anthony Bond, a close family friend and the founder of the Irving, Texas chapter of the NAACP said the family made the decision to leave the U.S. within the last 24 hours. They have spent those hours in Washington, D.C. where Ahmed has been on a mini-press tour in anticipation of his visit to the White House.

President Obama personally invited the teen after his arrest last month, reaching out to him via Twitter. The president was one of many who spoke out about the implications of a 14-year-old Muslim boy accused of building a bomb, put in handcuffs and pulled out a school. Once it was discovered that the “bomb” was only a digital clock the young innovator built himself, the Irving Police said they would not be charging Ahmed with any crime.

But the spark had already been lit; Ahmed’s story went viral, with the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed bringing out legions of supporters including Mark Zuckerberg, Hillary Clinton and Google co-founder Sergey Brin. Tweets, thinkpieces and day-time TV segments were dedicated to dissecting how Ahmed’s situation typified racism and Islamaphobia in America.

After withdrawing from school in Texas, the boy’s family embraced the opportunities that came from his brush with the law. He visited the Google Science Fair, met with Sudan’s President Omar al Bashir, posed with the Queen of Jordan at a United Nations Summit, appeared on the “Doctor Oz” show and last night, made it to the White House.

The most dangerous thing about this event, in my opinion, is setting the expectation of special treatment for merely being offended.

Obama has invited to the White House this teenager whose worst treatment was having his feelings hurt. He also invited the guy for the beer summit because the worst thing to happen to him was that he was insulted.

What about the newspaper delivery women who nearly shot to death during that manhunt in California? If you're going to try and shmooze the public by putting on a mummers farce, there are certainly better people to use in your show.

I loved the kids interview on CNN where he showed a disassembled circuit board from something or other then says "Its not my first invention and it wont be my last." Even Bill Maher was yelling that it was NOT an invention.
