Well she is gone. Somebody grabbed her and drove off. I thought I head the sound of a loud truck drive off 1130 am. Colorado. Disabled veteran tag REO 031 VIN JKAKLEA15HA007062
I will pay a nice reward for its return.

It should be legal to shoot thieves on sight. That sucks. Hope it's found.

Bastards. Hope you either find it or they break their damn neck riding it.
'87 KLR is a pretty unique bike (considering its age). I'll keep an eye open on craigslist, since I'm always looking for more bikes. I hope it turns up!
As a fellow rider, this hits close to home.

I hope they catch the puke. I'll keep an eye out.

Only difference in the photo is the blue hand guards are removed. The blue vinyl seat has some tears now. Apparently Pueblo has a lot of motorcycle thefts lately. If I didn't have a massive sinus headache last night, I would have had it chained. I just plain forgot to chain it up.
Dont search just that year as it may get listed without it.

And now you have guaranteed it will not be sold locally.
I would stay under the radar searching, a little stealth may be better than a bull in a china closet.
Chances are it will be parted out, keep an eye in that area as well.
So sorry this happened BMB.
Thieves are the worst.

Kind of what I was thinking, need to be sly about it.

Yeah, I'd take the ad down. Replace it with something like "WTB super-cheap or totaled 1980's KLR 650 or parts for rebuild to fix my bike". You'll get some legit replies you can decline. Generally fish responses to see if they have a whole bike available. Then claim you need matching white plastics to go with. But tact is how you get these things back. Patience and tact - anytime you see your stolen prop don't press the red freak out button either and confront them right away.
Yup, if they do bite, I'd go as far to say, meet the turds and discretly examine the bike as best as you can, as it's quite possible there is still a VIN or other identifying marks available. Once you have that info, contact the police and let them know where your property is.
Good chance someone needed it to get home or to their drug buy and it is now sitting in an overgrown ditch, next to a dumpster behind a warehouse or it is in the river..

I figured they wanted it for the motor. The same motor for all years even 2015 model. Motor # same as the frame VIN. If they contact me for a reward, I'll let LE handle it. In the meantime, I'll do a security audit and beef up my defenses. I won't post more on this for security reasons. Thanks for all the responses!
Fucking thieves!!!
Sucks ass....

Delete the CL ad.
Honestly I do not think that the CL add hurts anything. But it probably will not help anything either.
If it were stolen to sell for cash, it will be put up in another state or across the state for a cheap price. Then they will transport it there to make the sale. Also if they have any experience stealing, they will paint the plastic a different color or post other photos of a similar bike on the add. Parting it out is also an easy way to make a couple hundred bucks, and the block numbers on the engine do not match the serial number on the frame for most manufacturers.
The only way you are getting it back is if it is ditched and impounded, or the criminals get caught in a similar crime before they can get rid of it and you have a police report on file so they know to contact you.
Good luck, but I would not hold out much hope. My buddy got his bike back, but it was after the kid laid it down during a high speed chase through town and he low sided it into a curb. I think the thief lost a couple fingers if I remember correctly. But that is the only bike that I have ever seen recovered, and I have known many guys in the military who had bikes stolen.
A friend of mine returned home as someone was leaving his garage on his motorcycle. He followed for a bit in his truck while he called the police but stopped when the kid realized he was being followed and leaned on it. He got it back a few weeks later almost exactly as described above.

As an A9 ('95) owner, I'm sorry OP. I'll keep my eyes open.
As you know, the real value is going to be in parting it out. A person could make substantially more that way.
Beyond sentimental value isn't this something insurance will take care of?
