It's a charge fired from a rifle for door breaching. Good idea I would think.

That's pretty cool

I've seen this fired live. It's unbelievable how loud it is. Then again, I don't have any basis for comparison for hearing high explosive detonations. They're probably all loud.

If anyone is on the other side of that door, they're gonna die. The door blasts inward at shrapnel speed.

That is sweet!

For as advanced as the article makes the Israelis seem, you'd think someone would have invented a door knob by now.

On a serious note, pretty interested in that 4 way bolt door he was talking about.

I'm really surprised that a 5.56 bullet can transfer that much energy to such a [relatively] heavy object. My guess is that it's a little south of a pound.

I was wondering how that changed the point of aim myself. Also, how does it know not to arm itself for 15 meters? I've heard of stuff like that before, but never really understood how that worked.

I had the same thought but just suspect it's a few millisecond delay, (averaging 15 meters) when fired from a 5.56mm rifle.

It has the same delay mechanism as a hand grenade or a 40mm grenade launched from an M203. It's time based as Sawin posted above. It doesn't somehow "measure" the exact distance. It just has a delay timer built in that prevents the device from being armed until it has traveled beyond lethal range of the shooter (assuming of course that the projectile is traveling at its designed rate of speed and not defective).

Much more simple answer than the ideas rattling around in my head. Thank you.

Not to diminish the video, it's over 5 years old, the Israelis have used it quite successfully as well as developed a couple of other cool tools to breach doors with minimized fatal effects by themselves.

Looked like he was not prepared for the recoil.

Never liked his dramatic whispers anyway.

Cool tool. Probably works well on vehicles also.

So you, and presumably your team, are 30 yards away from the point of entry. Wouldn't bad guys inside have plenty of time to take aim at the door while you cover that distance?

How far away is a normal entry team?

One of the scenes in the vid shows the entry team around the corner from the door being blown.

My thoughts exactly. Curious as to what the MSD is on this thing for the secondary team.

Surprisingly close given the HE charge is both small and shaped. In the training demo we had, they had guys stacked up around the corner, exactly as depicted in the video.

Seems like an immediate flash bang follow-up from around the corner could buy the outside guys a few more seconds.
