I got my MP5 engraved yesterday and am wanting to finish the engraving to prevent rust and to match color. Does anyone know what I should use to paint over or seal the engraving on steel?

-Sorry if this is the wrong section for a thread like this. It's an SBR so I figured it's NFA.

cold blue it. I like the 44/40 over other products

Would I just put some on a q-tip and swab it on?

What kind of MP5 is it? If it's a POF or Zenith you might as well re-finish the whole thing with cerakote or duracoat since the factory finish on it is a little lacking...

Otherwise, a little cold blue will help prevent corrosion and rust.

It's an HK MP5, I was thinking about a complete coat but it felt like overkill. I was hoping to find something to black out the engraving and to help stop rust.

I will add that I'm willing to toss someone a few bucks to take care of this for me. I'd rather have it done correctly and I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to this kind of thing.

Can you get the 44/40 locally?

Correct. THEN i rinse with water to neutralize any residue. Then light film of oil.

Yes. Who carries it in your area?? There's birchwood casey, that will work. However nothing (IMO) beats 44/40 for a solid cold blue.
