I have a road trip coming up. I would like suggestions from you guys on audio books less than 7 hours long, I'll never finish if its longer than the round trip. I'm into SHTF, sci-fi and fantasy. I have read most classics of each, looking for somthing new! Thanks.

I was going to suggest World War Z since each part is read by different actors, but you've probably already read it.

Pick up Mistborn, or Elantris by Brandon Sanderson.

On short trips like that I usually just work on my singing skills.

I liked the recent audiobook adaptations of Heinlein's juvie novels. Each of them is right around 6-7 hours long: Podkayne of Mars, Between Planets, Have Spacesuit Will Travel, The Star Beast.

While he is a completely different person, have you read any of his original stuff?

7 hours is the round trip time? If not, I just blew through One Year After, the sequel to One Second After, in less than a week while driving to and from work and the silhouette match last Sunday. It was alright, but a far cry from the first book. Start with the first if you haven't read it yet, but I believe it's over your time limit...(why can't you just finish it after the trip?)

I am listening to John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. I don't know exactly how long it is, but the book isn't long and it is any easy listen if you've read it before.

Watching Longmire put it on my list. [Coffee]

Just finished listening to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", Phillip K. Dick, unabridged. Explains a lot of the backstory of "Bladerunner"

For less than 7-hrs., it will likely be abridged.

Good book.

Would it be wrong to admit that I like Dick...as an author? [flamingo]

Have you checked out the Vince Flynn novels? Awesome, riveting stories with a great narrator. I check them out through the library system. see: http://www.vinceflynn.com/Audio_Books.html

Vince Flynn on recorded books. (http://www.recordedbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=rb.show_auth&auth_id=9272)

I've listened to most of the Vince Flynn novels and many of the audios run 5-11 hours. My typical trip to the Front Range is 4.5 hours one way, so I can usually get through one of the books.

The Solar Clipper series by Nathan Lowell are (or were last I checked) still free downloads. I really enjoyed them. Also, there are a lot of Scott Sigler audio books that are free downloads. Mur Lafferty as well. Episodic stuff that can work on a 7hr trip. All good Sci-Fi IMO.

+1 for infected by Scott sigler. Not safe for kids. Free and a good listen. Podiobooks.com is available on iTunes as well. You'll probably start listening to his other stuff too.

+1 for Nathan Lowell who is family friendly as well. Raven wood is on there too. Pretty good stuff.

Best ever though is We're alive audio drama about the zombie apocalypse.

I actually have not.. I had to go back and read wheel of time from the start... so... I'm good for a year or so.. then I'll catch back up on the 'campus' stuff that's being continued after Clancy died.. I think I'm only 4 books behind on that..

Neat, thanks for that! I was having a hard time finding run times.

Listen to the audio samples on these, George Guidall is a masterful narrator:

For 7 hours I would find a podcast that sounds interesting and listen to 7 or 8 episodes. All kinds of awesome podcasts out there.
