View Full Version : New pistol can
So I am looking to get into the game and was looking at pistol suppressors. Does it make sense to buy a .45 can and also run it on a 9MM so then I don't have to buy two cans for both pistols?
I see a number of them have interchangeable pistons for situations like this.

Yes.

Absolutely. Most will be just a change of pistons. 9mm thru a 45 can might not be quite as effective as thru a 9mm can, but it will still be good.

I figure I will not get quite the noise suppression but these puppies aren't cheap.
Thanks for the info.
If they had a system like that when I bought my 9mm suppressor, that is what I would have done. Not a big enough deal for me to get a .45 can, nor get my 9mm can rebuilt for both.
To be honest, if I was starting "new" with cans today, I would not buy a .22 or pistol can, I would make my own and go the Form 1 route. For rifle, I might still buy one.
I have a .45 pistol can that I use for 9mm and I'm happy with the way it works. 9mm is louder than the .45 but I attribute that to the speed of the round.
OK you guys have convinced me that I am on the right path. Any recommended threaded barrel brand?

The right ammo makes a world of difference. Stop shooting 115 and go 147, even back off the 124's. Better yet reload.

Best idea yet. A pistol can done at home runs under $20. the boosters are where the $$ comes in
Suppressed 9...been using 147s and some 165s even.

It will be run on a G19 and a CZ
I reload 9mm already so new recipes are welcome

Two things...if you can afford 2 cans, get two cans. Waiting 6 months between having your 2 cans sucks...
If you can't afford 2 cans, get a .45 can. You can shoot 9mm, .40, and .45 through it.
And the ammo you shoot is more important to reducing the sound levels than the can or host...you can shoot 115 all day long through any can and it'll be loud...but once you shoot 147 or 158, you won't go back...
That being said...even though the sound difference is small, I can hear the difference between shooting 9mm through my Osprey 45 and Evolution 9, and I'm glad I did get a dedicated 9mm can. I thought I would be happy with a "do all" pistol can, but I'm happy that I decided to get a 9mm can as well...just waiting on the approval was the painful part and I wish I would have just ordered them at the same time.

Build a pistol can from a SDTA pistol sized tube. I know where a gemtech 9mm booster is

Check http://www.blacklistind.com and http://s3fsolutions.com
They both look real nice. Lone Wolf is good, Silencerco also.

Oh man too many options for sure. Not sure if I am ready to build my own at this point, not to mention the red tape when doing so.

You know I have you covered buddy and we can knock it out the same time as your other one. Whenever you are ready I'll take you to demo them as well to help you decide.
