I was out sighting in an MPX today and was hoping to get it lined up at 25 yards. Using an aimpoint T1 that has a 2moa dot. I started at 7 yards and could put 5 rounds through the basic same hole. At 15 yards I could do the same. AT 25 yards I couldn't even come close to hitting the 3" by 3" diamond at the center of my target. After practice and adjustments I could get 1 of 3 on the diamond at that distance. With a rifle like this, what distance should I sight it in? What performance should I actually expect vs. do I need more practice?

Like the title says, this is a 9mm rifle with an 8" barrel.

Have you tested it braced or anything. 25 yards and it is all over the place... or did you mean you have trouble hitting the target at that distance and it is otherwise grouped fine on paper off the target? Unless it hates your ammo, should be able to if using any kind of a rest to sight in/test should be able to get decent groups and on target. I mean at an indoor range it's not like I have to aim at the head to hit center mass with a glock.

At 25 yards there wasn't a good group at 15 they touched, so yea 25 yards was "all over the place". I was resting on my elbow when I fired. At 25 the red dot obscures the 3" by 3" diamond but I can center the picture just fine. I'm going to try different ammo next time and a rest too. I was with you in terms of your glock, I expect much better performance. I've trained and practiced with pistol 100x that of rifle so I may just be lacking skill.

Other than too big of a dot since it obscures so much (try irons or smaller moa dot?) I'd be worried there's something wrong with it. Apistol calibre carbines whole idea is to enhance accuracy and a little more distance. Granted it's only 8 over like a 5 glock34, but again should shoot at least as well as a handgun.

If you are grouping is good a 7 & 15 yards, your groups at 25 yards should also be good, granted they will be high, low, left or right of POI.

I've had 9mm carbines that grouped quite well even out to 100 yards.

If it's grouping well at seven and fifteen yards I don't see a logical reason it shouldn't group well at twenty-five.

Like already mentioned, the dot on your optic obscuring your target is my best guess as to what is causing your issue.

That or using better support and focusing on your technique might help too.

Thanks for all the input. I'll try again with better support and perhaps I'll slow down my pace too. Hoping this is me and not the rifle. I did try the irons before I put the red dot on and actually did get slightly better results.

Also, turn down the brightness as low as possible. Definitely shoot off of a support.

Based on the last sentence, it's the shooter. "Theory" is hitting target @ 5 - 10 - 15 yds, is no reason to not hit @ 25.
Slightly OT i was stringing rounds @ 100 with a 20" AR. Once i secured the rifle in a rest, those rounds were close enough if not on target it ruled out the rifle and pointed to the tool behind the tool.
