Video: Defensive pistol use neutralizes attacker

Captured on CCTV camera this morning. Attacker rams car through a crowd, then exits the vehicle with a meat cleaver and begins hacking at the already injured. An armed civilian neutralizes the attacker with an autoloading pistol (caliber unknown). Ignoring the political connotations of the video, the attacker is shot, drops, and stands back up resume his attack multiple times. It looks like he absorbs at least 3-4 rounds, possibly more. Strong evidence that carrying more than 7 rounds is a wise choice.

I was thinking this the entire time watching that video. We're trained that same drill in pistol for the military, and then again trained it a lot in LE. This is why I carry everyday. Proves that old point yet again, what stops a bad guy? An armed good guy. And this incident the bad guy didn't even have a gun! And Obama wants to get rid of guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens?

I am curious how long it took the police or military or whoever that was to show up. Seemed like a long time, according to the crowd that gathered and all the cars that were stuck in traffic in the background. Good job stopping him. It seems like getting the weapon away from him should be priority #1 once he's down, but I probably wouldn't be thinking perfectly rationally in such a situation.

You should come out and shoot some matches with us.

Not that I feel it is practical training for real world scenarios, but it does give you a little feeling of what it's like to shoot under stress and in a hurry. And you get better at drawing your weapon, engaging targets quickly, manipulating the weapon, and reloading in a hurry.

Like I said, not that I really consider it training for anything like what occurred in the video but there are some basic skills that you can work on while competing and having a good time. And no matter how calm you might be you'd be surprised how stressed and pressured you feel as soon as the timer goes off.

Oh, plus it would just be cool to have you out there.
