Looking for somebody to help me diagnose my dishwasher.

kenmore 665.13743k602

ive replaced the thermal fuse, same results.

wife said it was dead, tore into it and researched. Thermal fuse. So I disconnected and reconnected. It runs the drain pump for 2 minutes. At 1 minute in, the "washing" light is illuminated but kind of faint. It's 7 years old though so at least it lights up. Then after another minute, light and pump turn off, and whole thing is dead.
no lights on control panel light up, buttons don't work, nada. I've messed with the door prox switches, cleaned out the bottom from gunk, pulled it out and disconnected and reconnected every electrical fitting. No burnt areas on the panel.

any thoughts or recommendations appreciated. I don't want to dump money in this thing, we are planning on moving in under a year and don't plan on taking these appliances with us. Worst case is I get another SS cheapo dishwasher and I can install myself easily. But it would be nice to just fix this one and call it good.

Possibly a bad heating element tripping the circuit Buy another one.
Having a working dishwasher is much cheaper than listening to the spouse reminding you IT'S NOT WORKING, AGAIN. .

That really is the root of the problem...and the root of any person having to own a dishwasher is some lazy wife started this whole thing of needing a dishwasher and next thing you know they all wanted one!

We have a dead one too. I replace the thermal fuse half a dozen times. had a repaireman out twice, had more invested in repairs that the washer cost initially.POS. Money is tight so we just got used to doing them by hand. Someday when we're flush we'll try another one.
My advice would be mot tp put money into a problem machine. We had the circuit board replaced and then the pump and it was still popping fuses and that's when we gave up.

This is why i dislike kenmore. Expensive little bastards. They go as far as making sure all their fittings have unique threads so you cannot use any other companies parts.

That would be my suggestion as well.

I went with a cheap frigidaire from lowes.

our new build will get some nice appliances. All of these for this house we bought new kenmore. Every single one has had issues, so as fast as 7 months after new. The fridge at just after a year had a fuse blow out. Sears tells me the only way to fix is a $500ish dollar part that contains the fuse and they don't sell them separate.
I buy a 5 pack at Home Depot for under $10 and it's worked since, except the ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice even on cube setting.
handle on microwave came off twice, had to replace that once. Dishwasher had buttons coming off, then this. Stove fried the motherboard...as in damn near electrical fire. Took me call all the way up to headquarters threatening lawsuit for faulty wiring/parts to get them to replace it.

i know things don't last forever, but when in under 7 years every major appliance has had a major problem or multiple problems....that is shitty stuff.

There is nothing wrong with your ice machine, you just put the box back in wrong the last time you took it out and it is binding. A few minutes with the door open to see how the mechanism works and you should be able to get it right again. Mine does the same thing and it is so stupid. You shouldn't need three hands to put the ice box back.

Tried that about 20 times, I've let it sit out thinking it was frozen. I've dug into the internals. I gave up long ago

Open the door, pull the ice box forward enough to disengage the lever that fits in the very back. Hold the pressure switch down so the freezer thinks it is closed, reach around the door and push the ice button. Now go grab a towel because you just pushed the water button and got water all over your hand and the floor. Once everything is dried up, reach around and push the ICE button. You'll be able to see that doing so lifts a little white lever in the back of the fridge, which activates the lever that opens the ice door on the tray. You'll now see that when you just slide the ice box back in, the lever is sitting under the activation switch, so when you push the ice button, the auger turns and pushed the cubes forward, but since the door hasn't opened, the ice gets caught in the door and can't come out until it gets broken up enough to fit through the gap. This is why you think it's just stuck on crush.

Before you start this, Open the freezer door as is, hold the pressure switch, and press the ice button. *use a bowl to catch the ice or you'll get the floor wet, again . It's going to look like the ice box is trying to break free as it will jump and bounce around a ton.

Now, to fix, you just need to hold the door arm lever up a bit as you slide the tray into position. The correct position is with the lever resting on top of the switch.

Send me the labor minimum that you'd end up paying a repair man.

-1 point for trying to work a Whirlpool joke into what is clearly a Kenmore thread. GE, now I wonder if my fridge at home is a Kenmore.

Alright...well I got it. But we have some very different models. I have a plunger in the back and basically what happened is either over time or when the Sears tech came out that looked at it, the 2 screws holding that plunger up were gone. I had the whole damn thing ripped apart this time. I didn't dig as deep before. Basically the weight of the actuator sat on the plunger piece and didn't allow the little plastic door that lets full cubes slide by work. So everything was getting crushed because of that. I see two threaded parts on that plunger and no screws anywhere....
found a couple in my parts bin and the ice machine works like a champ!

since you were my tech last time I'll need a refund for that labor charge! [Coffee]

I used my ice maker to put a cube into a glass of whiskey to celebrate.

Don't worry, it's cheap Canadian whiskey.

It's good stuff. I'm typically a JD guy, but Canadian hunter and early times are very acceptable solutions!
