I have used it, turned out just fine. Disclaimer, I am no gunsmith but have tinkered quite a bit so do have some exposure to stuff like this.
With that said if your only using it once it might be just easier to get someone to do it. I didn't have a good option locally so just got the guides and did it myself.

There threading kits are good to go. Used them a few times, just take your time and dont rush it clear the chips out every turn or two. If your planning on using a suppressor I would go with Bert but if just for a brake or hider your home job will be just fine.
