I would have placed 3rd among those that shot today except I dropped one round on the final string. (80 shots and 2 sighters per stage and I managed to put one round on the neighbors target.)

Had a good time anyway, and this was my first time out at Ben Lomand, seems like a decent place.

Good for you. They run a pretty good reduced match. If your getting serious about highpower let me know, I have some gear I am selling. White oak upper, spare barrel, scope stand, 22lr SR upper. Lots of stuff.

I just realized that I missed an X when I added the score its 694 - 6X and I would have broke 700 if I had not improved the score of the shooter next to me.

I might be interested in the .22 upper but do not currently have the funds available. I had been looking at a .22 upper (Service rifle copy) from Keystone Accuracy that I discovered via this board http://www.usrifleteams.com/forums/

Tinkering with it for 4 or 5 years no more than 2 or three shoots a year (CRC or Weld County and now Ben Lomand) so you can not call me "serious". The one that I liked to hit was the Remember the Brave Match at CRC but that one did not occur this year. I need more than anything else to purchase a decent spotting scope but I am the type of individual that goes without until I can "buy once cry once" and not settle for something less than I want and I want good glass when I buy one. Rifle used was an Armalite National Match with Nosler Custom 77gr HPBT factory ammunition. (It was on close out at Sportsman's Warehouse so I bought 200 rounds.)

I know all about those misses.. Went out today at WCFW and shot my best score. However had a miss in offhand when I took up the first stage of the trigger and started coming down and BOOM! Put one into the berm over the target... Oops!

Anyways. Shot a 744-14X today. If I hadn't made that miss and put it in the 8 ring, I would have made Master class.

Scores were:

offhand: 172 with a miss

sitting: 190

prone: 188

slow prone 194

Total: 744- 14X

Here's my 600 reduced target... Wish I didn't have that one flyer 8 at 11o'clock...

What is the distance you fellas are shooting at?

I was shooting at 200yards with the 300 and 600 yard stages shot with reduced size targets.

I suspect the OP was too with the 600 yard reduced target he posted.

Damn impressive, especially with irons. I can't see 50yds with out a map & laser pointer.

In both Weld County and Ben Lomand's case the matches are at 200 yards with the "reduced" targets changed for each string to mimic the 300 and 600 yard shooting. So while you do not have to fiddle with elevation you are shooting at progressively smaller targets. Colorado Rifle club actually shoots to 600 in these matches.

So you could say minute of pie plate at 200 yards with Iron sights.

You all should come to the Frozen Chosin Match in Cheyenne in Dec. Toys for Tots drive Kinda similar to highpower but with sillouettes and a pistol stage. Dress warm and bring any serviceable weapon.. With focus on the M1. Admission is a unwrapped toy.

This pic was about 5 years ago or so.

I think the Ben Lomand November match is their Com-Block match if I understand correctly. As in bring your AK or SKS. I am not sure how many people actually AK's however.

I've been in wyo with weather like that. You look out, see maybe a light dusting of snow. Till you walk outside, then that 40mph wind. Or as the locals say, light breeze hits you.

Last year wasn't so bad... I think the temp was in the 40s or 50s. Lots of people turn up then.

After the match we go back into the bench rest building and have hot chili and they give out awards.

That sounds fun. I've got a new to me russian SKS that needs to be shot. Not sure how well I could do with it. The trigger is something kinda awful.
