So, I was the recipient of a random act of kindness this morning and payed it forward as well.

The wife got to work this morning and realized she forgot her glasses at home. She asked if I could bring them to her. She also asked if I would hit the drive through at Starbucks on my way and bring her some coffee and a breakfast sandwich.

So, I make my way through the long line at Starbucks and get to the window to pay and was informed the lady in the car in front of me had paid for my order. Figured the least I could do was pay for the guy behind me so I did.

As I was driving away I wondered if she would have been so kind if she knew I was a firearms enthusiasts and was carrying a handgun.

It was nice to see that humanity isn't a lost cause like it sometimes seems like it is.

Not a lost cause until we give up.

Keep Hope Alive!

Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of something small I can do a little more often. I can always use the reminder.

Be safe.

Yeah, I might start doing it just to brighten a stranger's day. I know it got my day off to a good start.

Had the same thing happen at a chic-fila a while back, did the same as you did.

Same thing here a couple months ago at taco bell. The lady in front of me had left her keys dangling out of her trunk, with the key inserted into the trunk lock. I got out, approached her in a very non-threatening way & asked her if she would like me to hand them to her. She obliged very thankfully & told me it wasn't the first time she had done it. When I got to the window to pay, the employee told me that the lady had paid for my meal and said "Thank you very much." I put $5 toward the next person's meal.

That's a great story, and really cool that you passed it on behind you, Ray.

I bought an elderly mans dinner at a Villiage Inn a while back. It was a great feeling to see his face when the waitress was letting him know, as I was backing out of my parking space to head home.

There is still good in the world.

Happened to us once at Chik-fil-a during the whole "demonstration" deal. We paid it forward as well. Good times!

My story from today... Went to a hippy sandwich joint in Denver I go to once in awhile. Really good homemade food. See a "WE SUPPORT PLANNED PARENTHOOD NO MATTER WHAT" sticker on the door (never seen it before). Ironic since this place is also anti-corporate and PP is a corporation that has literally monetized the destruction of human beings.

Turn around and leave.

We did the 'pay it forward' thing at a Sonic a few months ago. It's kinda' fun.

Doing the random act of kindness is a good deal, I believe it brings good karma to yourself. Honestly, its a great feeling to know that you might have brightened somebodies day somehow.

I don't believe in "karma", and this seems an awful lot like the "unwritten rules of the road" - G, G or A... nobody rides for free.

But if you wanna pay for the person after you, or drop cash in a panhandler's cup or cap, that's your prerogative.

I tend to express it more for those in uniform, or obviously in need, but I guess that's just my swerve.

Circuits and foxtrot, while I get where you're coming from, you guys are kind of killjoys.

I fully understand that ultimately all that happened was that I went through a drive through, received coffee, and payed for coffee. I also know it's really just a silly game that priveledged white people play to make themselves feel good about being a good person.

Honestly, I did consider just taking my free stuff and going about my business.

But, the way I see it, why not play along. It doesn't hurt anything in this situation and might just make someone's day a little brighter.

The world is kind of a depressing, messed up place. The media makes it worse by pretty much only reporting on negative stuff. If playing this drive through game makes me or anyone else in line feel better about ourselves or our fellow man then who am I to argue.

Always a couple negative Nancys in the bunch.

Pretty cool, Ray!

I read one time a story by a drive thru guy when one of these happened. When the last guy got up to the window and found out the previous woman had paid via credit card for his order, he changed it to be something like 75$ in gift cards or some asshole thing like that. The sad part is, the cashier let it happen and rang it up.

Kind of apples to oranges on the two examples, as one of them never asked for the "handout".

I guess the way I see it, you never know what kind of a day the person you bought coffee for was having. Maybe they just lost a loved one, their dog, BF/GF just broke up with them etc. Buying their coffee certainly won't fix their problems, but sometimes it's the little things. Everyone will live their lives differently, and treat people differently.

Someone in front of us paid for lunch for 2 and I paid for lunch for the 4 working stiffs in the truck behind me. This isn't always a zero sum game. They looked like hard working guys and I bought their lunch that day. It was probably a nice surprise for them, and that's all that mattered to me.

I agree.

And my experience wasn't straight up. I picked up a coffee and a breakfast sandwich for the wife. The total of my order was ten dollars and some change. The guy behind me only got a $4 cup of coffee. Seems like a win for me.

If it makes your day a little brighter and you can do it-why not ? Some of this micro examination drives me crazy !!!
Good on you Ray. [Coffee]
