View Full Version : Sportsmans Team Challenge
I just heard from Lones Wigger that the new dates for the 2011 fall Sportsmans Team Challenge are 19-21 August. The 19th is not mandatory as it is a practice day.
If you own a shotgun, 22 pistol and a 22 rifle, get out there.
Of all the different games/matches I play, this one is the most fun and exciting.

Me too. I've always wanted to shoot a Sportsman's Challenge. I know a semi-retired shooter (AF guy) who's talked about it too.
Hoser, per your email on this, maybe a practice day in Pueblo where you can give a few of us the lay of the land, work up our .22s for the distances, and the shotgun part...I'd be in. I don't know if the Regionals in Raton is the best first time experience. Yikes.
Not much time left for a practice day, but I do have all the targets. It is almost 30 plate racks. It just takes time to get it all set up.

Yea, I meant to say get some experience with the format and compete next year.
30 plate racks? Holy moly. I guess that makes sense when I've watched it on ShootingUSA. I would be a good discipline to break down into a few different practice sessions. I, for one, would be up for that in 2012.
Good luck this year though.
so where is the Sportsman Team Challenges? Are they going to have one in Colorado?
The regional matches are held all over. Raton and Phoenix are the closest to here.
Raton is about the only place that runs a spring and fall regional.
I am not aware of any local matches. To buy just the pistol and rifle targets, it will run about $10-15,000 and not many clubs are willing to make that investment on rimfire targets. Then add in another 10-15 grand for shotgun throwers and the computer to run it all.
I sometimes set my stuff up at Pueblo a weekend or two prior to the regionals or nationals.
You would think Colorado would make a good place for that type of shooting event. So many shooters wanting to go to some type of fun shooting event and there is just a lack of events.
Well NRA Whittington is just right over the CO/NM border...

Im also looking at next year. I'm hoping my plate becomes less full. I shot with Sevighy yesterday and he made a comment about shooting some big event with only 6 practice days the month before. I mentioned I hadn't had a practice day in 7 years.
You could have heard crickets. [Tooth]
Tomorrow is the practice day and the match is Saturday and Sunday.
Be there or be square.
DocMedic, Hannibal and I will be there.

Hey, the new glock needs a competiton workout. who knows, maybe miracles do happen? [Tooth]
One heck of a good time.
A minor delay of game due to rain Saturday afternoon, but other than that it was a perfect match.
Doc did excellent. The learning curve is steep and he caught on fast. And when you consider it was his first STC match *and* he won his class, nice job.
My 2 man team partner Hannibal was able to go 12 for 12 on the precision pistol portion (4 inch square plates at 40 yards, offhand) setting a regional record in the process.
I again proved I cant shoot a shotgun. But had a good time seeing old friends and doing a little shooting.
The Spring 2012 Regional will be mid May in Raton. I will be running a pistol and rifle practice match late April in Pueblo.

We didnt get any video but here is a taste of the most exciting shotgun event, the Flurry. The birds come right at you every 1.25 seconds, ready or not.
