What better place to post this question then to a bunch of AR15 owners who probably also have the same vehicles as I have! I have a 97 Wrangler and I would love to find a mount for my AR15 and I'm wondering what other folks have done. I've seen a couple that mount to the dash with a floorplate, but I'm thinking I would like it next to the door instead, there is plenty of room and the roll bar is right there to mount the upper portion to. Anyone done this or have ideas?

I would also like to be able to mount that same rifle to my 88 Bronco, except I have no idea other than the dash where I could do that. I don't want to use the floor mount systems (on either vehicle) because I use that space, if you have any good ideas for the Bronco that's also appreciated.

Thanks!

This is interesting... But now i'm very curious! Why exactly do you want to mount your AR to your jeep? It sounds awesome! [Coffee]

Primarily I just want to maximize space, as when I go camping I have that little Jeep filled up when I'm going with a buddy. The other reason is that when I take a vehicle camping, it's not like I'm sticking to paved roads, I get into some pretty good off camber situations as well as super rough terrain and it would be nice to have that puppy secured and not bouncing around in a case.

Oh, and it would just be cool :).

Sooo, you're not talking about something like a 50cal mount then, just something more in line with a redneck "rifle rack in the back window" type of thing?

Well, since you put it that way, yes I want a rack and not a mount, unless of course I can find a fully automatic .50cal that the Denver police won't mind me cruising around town with :).

Why not mount it on the roof like Denver PD does?

Jeep soft top = no roof :).

There is a roll bar that goes right above your head. Couldn't you mount something right there just like some models have that light/speaker bar?

I have seen ar-15 wall mounts that insert into the mag port and lock in. you could bolt one of those to a roll bar.

I know it's been a while since the OP, but...

They have some pretty neat stuff.

This one will mount to any flat surface... like the roll bar.

The mounts that hold the magwell are ok if you stand the rifle up and the magwell keeps the rifle from falling over, but I would not suspend the rifle from the magwell as the only attachment point.

When I read the thread title, I couldn't help but picture some guy in the back of the truck standing up with his AR15 mounted to the roof like one of the machine gun jeeps.

stand back :-0 this one got me thinking. I have a '94 so it's not the same, but I found that next to the door was to tight. I did find that my wife’s carbon-15 that I made her will fit above the sound bar nicely. Her weapon is an M-4 with aimpoint, and 30 round mag, but my other AR-15 with the forward Assist would not fit. Did you find a way for yours?

I like this thread, wonder if there's a way to roof mount mine... locking would be a plus

What are you looking to put it in?

You could mount it to the hood and make some kind of way to make the windshield flip up and forward like the back of a truck topper.

I've done some thinking of putting a small gun in front of the radiator with a laser for a sight picture. Aiming would be done by wire cables...

Don't leave home without it! Custom mount with a Santa Cruz Gunlock in my 2002 Chevy Silverado extended cab.

FYI - Nobody on this forum has a gun. It's all theoretical.

Just remember that state law does require all non-handguns to have an empty chamber when inside a vehicle. No derogatory comments...I'm just letting you know to save you headaches later.

I'm Sure that Magazine in the above Photos was empty as was the chamber.

Probably taken well inside of Private property, like a ranch in Texas er something ;)

Mags don't have to be empty, just the chamber. It is a DOW law to prevent poaching. Haha, what a dumb law.

got stopped by the dow antelope hunting, and they checked my chamber ./ the guy doing it was super sketched out, and I attempted to hand= him my rifle, and asked him if he would feel better if he did it? He repliued no just go nice and slow, so I did.
