View Full Version : Regular shoppers at S Carefree & Powers in COS
Did you notice that the potholes just prior to the roundabout entrance to the shopping centers were filled in just after the tax passed?
I know I'm not imagining this, been hugging the left curb for months avoiding them. But tonight there was fresh blacktop.
Not that I wasn't already cynical about politics...but this is as lame as letting the weeds grow in the medians and shutting off streetlights last time.
Colorado always seems to fill potholes right before inclement weather where they get messed up again right away. At least do it in spring so you have all summer of nice roads.

I live in the county so couldn't vote on the tax increase. Would have been against it if I could have though. I bet they would have more then enough money to cover the pot holes if they would drop that ridiculous "City of Champions" they are pushing.
I will make sure I shop outside city limits whenever possible so I don't pay that extra sales tax that's for sure.

This is EXACTLY what I've been thinking. Exactly!
They try to fill as many as they can before it freezes. When water in a pot hole freezes, it expands and gets much worse with freeze, thaw, freeze thaw ect.

These voting tactics seems to re-surface over and over Those that have been in Colorado for a while will remember :
The speed limit changes from 65 to 55 to 65 to 75 then back to 65 and finally up to 75. This has all been since 1984! This was due to federal funding for roads and Colorado caving into the federal government to get money. Same with the legal drinking age.
How about introduction of the state gas tax and its repeated voter approved increases that were to fix the roads as well.
Colorado Springs being a home rule city is not getting the taxes from the state so there have been numerous tax increases over the years and road repair have been a promise for these road repairs over and over. If you neglect an easily seen utility like roadwork and put your tax dollars in earmark projects you can state there is no money and ask for more. People will complain and vote for a tax increase not remembering that this has been done before. The last time the city did this tactic instead of using potholes they used city street lights and park trash pick up. People have such short memories. Anytime people don't study their history they are bound to repeat it. Unfortunately the City learned this tactic from our Federal Government.

This is why I ultimately voted against 2C. There is really no excuse for our sales tax rate to be over 8%. That's simply a sign the city is doing more than it should be and some city "services" need to be trimmed.
As far as 2D goes, the appeal for schools is a pure lie. The state doesn't need or deserve the money. The potheads that paid that tax created additional demands on city and state services so I have no problem with the excess taxes being returned to all state taxpayers (except of course we won't get it because of the way idiots voted).
Taxes run feast or famine. What Colorado Springs does time and time again is in feast years they buy all sorts of infrastructure which requires maintenance (parks, vehicles, etc.). Then in famine years they complain about not having enough money to maintain all the new toys they bought.
This tax increase is "required" because they bought too many new toys over the last couple of years which pulled money away from roads.
Now my prediction: Over the next couple of years the monies for roadwork from the general fund will gradually decrease, negating the effect of the tax increase. This will result in excess funds for Colorado Springs to buy its next new toy: The City for Champions development.
Lather, rinse repeat.
I knew Suthers was a RINO from years ago.
