In case anyone in the Springs area is interested, LiveFire Armory @ Barnes Road & Marksheffel Road is having their Grand Opening today (finally) from 0900-1900 (tel:0900-1900).

Supposed to be discounts and what not. I'll be there @ about 12:00.

Cool shop. Lots of inventory on the shelf and friendly staff.

I managed to spend some $$$ in there.

Always good to see you Thomas.

Yes sir, always a pleasure.

To ensure I didn't anger my bride (we just celebrated our 27th anniversary last Sunday), I kept my spending well constrained - I finally got a Wheeler upper receiver vice block with a receiver insert/gas tube guide rod. Now I can start considering building a complete upper (as discretionary funds come available).

Sorry I missed you vossman. And Aloha, you missed some really good sales with extra discounts. Would have loved to meet more folks from the site as I've met so few from here in the Springs.

I spent much of my time there talking with an older Marine Corps vet. Would have loved to hear his story, but the hype of the place was too much for serious conversations.

I'm not too comfortable in crowds so I finally left @ about 2pm. They were giving away lower receivers in drawings each hour. I didn't score one but had a good time anyway.

Looks like they're open tomorrow (Sunday)... I'm helping with a Basic Pistol class in the morning, I'll swing by afterwards!

It seems like there are more shops on the east side of town now, then there were shops in all of town a few years ago.

Must have missed by just just a few minutes. I was there a bit before noon I think.

I thought LiveFire had a Grand Opening like a year ago? We're talking about the place on Barnes and Marksheffel run (in part, I believe) by Kevin Gilpin, right?

Location is correct, don't know who owns it though. They were closed for a bit I remember.

I think he also started his shop initially in Falcon for a bit?

I used to talk to him at all the Co Springs gun shows. Bought some stuff from them there and online. Super nice guys.

Yes, to all. Kevin Gilpin opened the business originally from his home in Falcon. I knew Kevin because he was my corporate Security Manager (he now works for another company doing cyber-security stuff). His plan was to eventually have a brick & mortar store. He finally realized this when he opened the doors last fall on the Barnes/Marksheffel store. In order to make this a reality he took on a partner who worked full-time at the store. Kevin was waiting until the initial opening settled down to schedule an official Grand Opening, then BOOM! Sometime around Christmas last year Kevin found out that his partner was embezzling from the company. Kevin immediately sought legal action against this partner and had to close the doors until it was all sorted out. A judge put a gag order on the business so they couldn't even post something on their web site explaining what was going on or even showing that they were closed. According to what Kevin told me yesterday, this was all finally resolved in August - with the partner still refusing to acknowledge he did anything wrong. Since he once again had to get the store operating and stable he held off on the Grand Opening until yesterday.

Kevin and most of his staff (there's one guy who always gives me the stink eye) are super friendly & knowledgable. His prices aren't the absolute cheapest you can find, but availability is the best I've seen in the Springs for AR's and parts. He will also order anything he doesn't carry that you want (depending on ordering availability). While I think Noah & Ark Tactical are better, in my opinion, this is the best gun store in Colo Springs.

Now that things have settled down again for him I need to talk to him about the discount he used to offer to CO-AR15 members & see if we can get it re-instated.

That would be sweet to get a few % off here and there.

That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. I went to his house more than a few times to pick up orders, but hadn't talked to him recently. Glad he got things sorted out. Hope the embezzler rots.

I stopped by briefly yesterday. They were pretty picked over. The guy working there said they had ordered more inventory but it was empty.
