Anyone been on one or recommend a ranch to go to? So many choices on Google, not sure what's good and what's not.

Anything between castorville and del Rio...Anything about 50 miles either side of that line is good area. If you're rich the 777 or tecomate would be swell

CEO of my previous employer took us to Corpus to hunt hogs. Spent 4 days on his 1000 acres, during which the 8 of us bagged more than 60 hogs.

Processed the rat bastids, and donated the meat.

As for the public ranches, I have no idea, but I would be interested in hearing what people have found.

The prices at 777 are insane, basically a farm raised trophy hunt. You pay a fee based on the size of the rack, $2500 up to $15k. Wow. I didnt see any pig hunt info but I didn't stay on the site too long. <br>Most places I found are drop off/pick up blind type hunts in the evening, running about $750 for a 3 day hunt. Processing is a bit extra. You can get a guided hunt for another $200 a day. Not sure I'd want to stomp around in the Texas heat chasing pigs.

I'm planning on going in Spring 2016. A friend of mine has a ranch in Wimberly, a little south of Austin. I'll be staying in the town of San Marcos as he said it's a short drive to his property. Tells me it's getting really bad and it's affecting his cattle business. Private property so anything goes. So far it's just me going. Let me know if any of you are interested in tagging along. Last I spoke to him, we'll be helping him out so no $$$$.

Sounds interesting. I might be interested in going. It'd be nice to put my Hunter Safety card to use and help someone out by clearing pests.

I was thinking the same thing. I had this vision of a chartered motor coach with 50 armed guys, Texas bound.

What's the drive time like? 14+ hrs? I'll chip in for gas money to transport the meat back home. I'm flying in!

I've hunted hogs a couple times and my most enjoyable hunt was on the Y Bar Ranch near Tilden, Texas. It's not inexpensive but you are very well taken care of and the hunt was outstanding. You are not limited in the number of hogs you can take and we did very well. You can find cheaper places but you won't find a better place.

Good luck on your hunt!

I'd probably road trip it in my Expedition so I could bring a variety of firearms. This opportunity begs for scientific research on the differing efficacies of the M-1A, M-1D Garand, .30-30 Win, .300 Blackout, and maybe .45-70 rolling block ...

Update: I will be speaking to my friend in Wimberly tomorrow night to get his thoughts on the hunt and specifics on how many people he feels comfortable with and so on. He also said that he has friends with bigger property than his that may allow us to hunt there. Tentatively scheduled for Spring 2016ish. His wife is giving him a surprise for Christmas that he wants to try out with us. Something about being able to see in the dark?.....Damn. Now I gotta get the NV stuff. Anyone got an extra set for me to use?! I'll be sending out PM's to those who responded early to this thread.

Last fall we went to College Station, TX for a game and some pig thumping. The ranch was: Brushy Creek (http://www.brushycreekoutdoors.com/) right outside of town (easy, like 20 minutes from campus). Good Ol' boys with a great setup and an awesome selection of animals. Price was good too: $100 for the hunt and $1 per pound, per pig. I got a big Russian boar that was around 150, my son got a sow at 80# and a boar at 140#. Some buddies got some nice pigs, too. They cleaned, quartered and iced the meat for us and even had a taxidermist that gave us a discount. Pretty sweet setup.

Taxidermist. I'll have to look into that one in case we run into a trophy sized hog. Fingers crossed.

Nah you want to get the hogs under 150 pounds if you want to eat them!

Completely agree and that was our thought going in. However, the meat even on the biggest pigs was clean and tastes pretty good. I was shocked. The whole reason my son shot the medium sow was so we would be sure to have some tasty meat, but so far, all of it has been pretty good. Must be all that clean livin' in Texas...

Here is a picture of the damage the hogs do to fields in case you guys need to know why you're going hunting. The picture is a video capture from a Military Arms Channel video. The video has clips showing other damage to trees and stuff. The video is "East Texas Pig Hunt with a M240L"

That sucks, man. I guess it was raining like crazy this past week, but next week it looks to be dry for the most part. We don't care if it's a down pour, I've been waiting a long time to do this and so have the other members. We're was your buddy supposed to hunt?
