Happened just northeast of our farm ground. Senseless though they did apprehend the two individuals.

Were those poached or legal game? Couldn't tell if you were being facetious.

Wow, what a couple of idiots. I hope they get jail time and huge fines, loss of hunting rights and anything used in the poaching taken away, truck, guns, everything.

Senseless and wasteful. I hope the judge who sentences these men gets creative in finding some useful community service for them to spend a great deal of time completing.

Yup, they deserve the maximum penalty.

Give them the chair as far as I'm concerned. Pieces of shit. What a waste.

I was just thinking how different my opinion would be if it was a trailer full of dead ISIS terrorists! But yep....still want these two to get severe punishment.

I think that's a bit of an extreme stance... They killed a bunch of animals that are numerous in population and regularly hunted across most of the west anyway. Why they killed them doesn't really matter, but sentencing the accused to death for killing some animals is simply not reasonable or justified.

Hopefully the Judge is a hunter who hunts in that region and never got a thing.
He would have a case of the ass for sure.
Sad, I understand critters is critters but I have never cottoned to killing just for the sake of killing.

How did they catch them (the poachers)?

Small community anonymous tip came in. Plus I'm sure there was some boasting involved.

Assholes! I hope that this senseless, outrageous act haunts them for at least a dozen years.
May it come up whenever they apply for a job. May future girlfriends Google their backgrounds and read about this. May they have merciless relatives that hold this over their heads at every family gathering.

May their judge be a card-carrying member of PETA, and may their public defender not only be completely green, but utterly incompetent.

The west is full of people too , do we really need these two assholes ? (JK)
I agree my initial post was a bit of a knee jerk reaction. But before I get painted as the tree hugger type , I was born and raised hunting and fishing , and will continue to do so as long as I'm able. I just really hate to see such a valuable resource wasted.

Yup. I'd be completely fine with the maximum penalty served consecutively though. Each animal nets 3 months of jail time and 25 animals killed equals 75 months of jail time.

On Wednesday afternoon, McKeehan received an anonymous phone call from a person who stated they knew who was responsible for the killings.

Did these fawkwits just shoot the animals or harvest them? My guess is thrill kill. Throw the book at them.

Sad. [Shake][off-yourself]

75 months in jail.... really?

Shouldn't we have the chomos and real crooks in jail that pose a greater threat to society?

What they did was wrong but in reality all they did was kill to many goats. Fine the piss out of them, strip them of hunting privileges and make them do community service.

Irving

I'm not sure that stripping a poacher of hunting privileges would do anything but encourage them to poach some more.

Edit: that doesn't mean I don't think hunting privileges shouldn't be taken in this case.

This time: a few hundred hours of community service, all weapons and equipment involved confiscated and auctioned off for some wildlife fund, gigantic fine and all hunting/fishing privileges stripped for life.

Next time: a lengthy prison sentence.

The best kind of community service for these people is to dangle from the end of a rope.

Wow... glad mob rule isn't part of our legal system. People need to step back and breath more these days. I'm tired of people demanding someone's job over nothing. Demanding the death penalty over misdemeanors and petty crimes. Then you get someone who is equally outraged and before you know it someone is looking for a new career (yeah, that's what happens when you demand for someone's job and it affects entire families) or death threats are being issued. Then it just takes one dim light bulb even dimmer than the rest to follow through with that since they thought the rest of the mob was clearly in the right.

Try to apply a little common sense here folks.

That looks like 25 felony counts of waste of game meat. Do you think that anyone who would engage in that sort of senseless and destructive slaughter wouldn't find it very easy to step up to slaughtering humans?

Sorry, but that's not the way our legal system works, we don't string someone up based on what we THINK they MIGHT be capable of. Get real...

You're right. Hunters are some of the most dangerous people I know. In fact, I think they all are probably just itching to be serial killers. [Sarcasm2]

I know you used the sarcasm smiley, but that's not hunting, it's wanton vandalism and destruction of resources. I think a reasonable sentence would be some jail time(3-12 months), a felony conviction (with attendant loss of certain rights), a massive fine, and about 500 hours of beneficial community service.

ETA: Make 'em eat a vegan diet for 2 years.

Never hunted speed goats, so just out of curiousity; Do antelope scatter after the first shot or do they stand around figuring that one wasn't meant for them and what are the odds the shooter will take another shot?

I dont think think (and hope) any of us here can honestly answer that question since the killings were done at night. Animals behave very differently then.

i think the reason for the outrage amongst a group of us is that we are hunters, we spend a shit load of money and time hunting and that money goes to conservation. Conserving habitat for these very animals to thrive. Liberals and animals rights groups talk a big game but hunters are boots on the ground who donate money and time, belong to organizations and spend their money on licenses to enjoy our way of life. Those animals rights groups like to spend their money on lawsuits and commercials about animal cruelty, hunters spend their money keeping the Wild wild and allowing animals to thrive for generations to come.

these two fuckheads just wiped out a small herd of antelope. And it pisses me off, and several others as you can see. Hence why we want harsh punishment.

I get that. One of my relatives is a game warden and he and I have joked about the tried and true method to reviving any endangered species in the US is to sell tags to hunters.

My question was actually serious. Some animals only give you one shot and then what was there is quickly gone. Then there are the animals that will stand there like Steve Martin in The Jerk while the guy shoots at the oil cans next to him.

I am all for some harsh but realistic justice for the nitwits who would do something like this. This story reminds me of the Boy Scout leaders who thought it would be fun to topple rocks in a Utah state park. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2014/03/18/291201681/ex-scouts-who-toppled-ancient-rock-formations-reach-plea-deal

Everyone does dumb stuff from time to time. Some people learn to refrain from carrying out further stupidity and others...

Be safe.

Sorry, that wasn't directed at you specifically.

most animals I would think would run away. These pronghorn may have felt safe, these guys might have had big capacity mags and started blasting as fast as they could, or they might have chased them down and picked them off, it's hard to say. I know waterfowl will take off of my pond even when it's pitch black if I go near it.

ive walked out of the woods in the dark and scared elk (and myself) at very close ranges. Hard to say what these pronghorn did
