What do you consider important for your ar scope height. This gun won't have backup irons. I see a lot of rifles with very tall rings and am wondering why. As long as the scope doesn't interfere with the charging handle, am I good to go?

Only if you want to smash your face down into the stock.

The reason the scopes are mounted higher on these things than a bolt action is you have an in-line action and there is no "drop" on the stock

Personally, I'm most comfortable having the center of the scope about 1.5" off the top rail for a good check weld.

I had the same question a while back. I borrowed a Burris PEPR(sp?) mounted and measured it's center line height. It seemed to line up with my eye with a comfortable and consistence check weld. It was near 1.500" or similar to the center height of iron sights. Height may also depend on your scopes objective lens diameter.

Yeah, it's a 50mm, but my low rings just barely clear the hand guard. I see that you are correct. While I can see through it just fine, (if I smash my fat cheek into the stock), I need to move it forward for prone and the eyepiece won't clear the receiver. I'm going to need a different stock eventually too. I like the angles on my other stock better. I need to take up hacky sack, the gun hobby is pricy.

Agreed. My first real hobby was drag racing. Firearms seemed pretty cheap in comparison.
